  • The Giants’ draft targets at linebacker, cornerback and safety

    https://nypost.com/2018/04/14/the-gi...ck-and-safety/

Excerpt: "A glimpse at how the Giants could attack the linebackers, cornerbacks and safeties in the upcoming NFL draft:

The Giants believe they greatly upgraded their linebacker talent with the trade for Alec Ogletree, who will start on the inside and make the defensive calls. The hope is B.J. Goodson can stay healthy and man the other starting job on the inside. Olivier Vernon moves to an outside LB role, and Kareem Martin was signed as a free agent from the Cardinals for the other outside spot. If there is a trade down in the first round, undersized but ultra-athletic Roquan Smith from Georgia would be an interesting addition. So would Leighton Vander Esch from Boise State.

A case can be made there is a strong need to add a cornerback, with Janoris Jenkins returning as the only established starter — a description that cannot yet be affixed to Eli Apple after his bouts with immaturity in 2017, on and off the field. Veteran William Gay was signed and could be a nickel back option if he has enough tread on his tires at age 33. Jaire Alexander (Louisville) could be an option in rounds 2-3.

The Giants love Alabama safety Minkah Fitzpatrick (who doesn’t?) but will not pick him at No. 2. If there is a trade back, he would be a perfect complement at free safety. Imagine Fitzpatrick — who can play three or four spots in the secondary — teaming with Landon Collins, two Alabama studs working together? There isn’t much to choose from on the roster, with Darian Thompson coming off a sluggish season and Andrew Adams more of a stopgap option. Perhaps Justin Reid (Stanford) in the second round makes some sense. Top five linebackers" Read more...

Saw this yesterday. I would be totally fine trading down but staying high enough to select Edmunds or Fitzpatrick. I think they’re both gonna be excellent NFL players.

Here’s what the article says about Edmunds:

      1. Tremaine Edmunds*, Virginia Tech, 6-4, 245
Two-year starter is great combination of size, strength and speed with explosive ability. He’s a standout edge rusher who also is strong in pass coverage against running backs and tight ends. Edmunds had 109 tackles with 5.5 sacks, 14 tackles for a loss, two passes batted and three forced fumbles in 2017.

if we trade down with the Bills, he would be a great pick at 12.

          IF, Edmunds is available.
49ers and Raiders may draft Edmunds and R.Smith.
