  • Top 3 Picks 2004-2017

2017: Garret DE, Trubisky QB, Thomas DE

2016: Goff QB, Wentz QB, Bosa DE

2015: Winston QB, Mariota QB, Fowler DE/OLB

2014: Clowney DE, Robinson T, Bortles QB

    2013: Fisher T, Joeckel T, Jordan DE

2012: Luck QB, Griffen QB, Richardson RB

2011: Newton QB, Miller OLB, Dareus DT

2010: Bradford QB, Suh DT, McCoy DT

    2009: Stafford QB, Smith T, Jackson 5T

2008: Long T, Long DE, Ryan QB

2007: Russel QB, Johnson WR, Thomas T

2006: Williams DE, Bush RB, Young QB

2005: Smith QB, Brown RB, Edwards WR

2004: Manning QB, Gallery T, Fitzgerald WR

Take a look. Overwhelmingly QBs, DEs, and Ts are selected within the top 3. Overwhelmingly, the DEs end up being the most solid NFL players but not many of the DEs reach superstar/HoF level. Two of the 3 WRs selected in the top 3 are guaranteed first ballot HoFers.

    2nd overall picks:
    QB Trubisky - jury out
QB Wentz - jury out (looks good)
QB Mariota - jury out (good at times, underwhelming others)
    T Robinson - BUST
    T Joeckel - BUST
    QB Griffen - BUST
    OLB Miller - Superstar
    DT Suh - Superstar
    T Smith - BUST
    DE Long - Average
WR Johnson - Hall of Famer
RB Bush - Below average (but did what he did well)
    RB Brown - Below average
    T Gallery - BUST

So defensive linemen are your safest bet. Although the return on a QB is high when successful. Also when a truly head and shoulders BPA was avail, he ended up being the best of all these players - Calvin Johnson

      Thanks for posting this 88!

The Giants have stated the player they draft at No. 2 next week would be a top pick in any draft.

My question for anyone is...which player(s) in the 2018 NFL Draft would be worthy of drafting top 3 looking at the last 14 drafts?

In my opinion, Sam Darnold, Saquon Barkley, Brad Chubb.

And I do think the Giants will pick one of those three.

I think DG is going to select Barkley>Chubb if he doesn't go QB or trade.

              The four OT's all busted
              Jason Smith ( Baylor )
              Greg Robinson ( Auburn )
Luke Joeckel ( I forget which school )
              Robert Gallery ( Iowa )

The notion of top OTs being safe picks is crazy. DL are much safer.

If they see Barkley as a Calvin Johnson / Larry Fitz type of talent (HoF) then they canít go wrong picking him.

I would take Darnold but not one of the other QBs. So if they have a ďvalueĒ issue with a RB and they donít like the QBs then Chubb is the obvious and easy choice

I know right....and all four of those guys were the 2nd overall pick in their respective drafts
