    Excerpt: "About a week ago, the Giants sent a scout to the Pro Day of a little-known receiver from McNeese State named Diontae Spencer. And while there are no guarantees that the Giants or any team will draft him, the 5-9 Spencer certainly seems like an intriguing late-round prospect.

    Spencer put together an impressive afternoon, running his 40-yard dashes between 4.29 and 4.37 seconds, and he added a 40-inch vertical leap in with all that, too. Those numbers would have placed him among the receiver elite at the NFL Scouting Combine in February.

    None of his means that the Giants will take a shot at Spencer - or that any team will - but the unknown receiver is quietly generating buzz, and he has a key advocate in soon-to-be Hall of Famer Andre Reed.

    The former Buffalo Bills star coached Spencer at the NFLPA Bowl earlier this year, and he walked away impressed.

    "You could just see his talent," Reed said. "The guy scored a touchdown (in the NFLPA Bowl) and displayed a lot of speed. Speed, that's his main asset.

    He's kind of like that diamond in the rough. He just needs a chance.

    "He kind of reminds he of Dexter McCluster," Reed added. "Dexter is a smaller guy who relies on his speed and agility. Weighs about 165. I think Diontae's probably that weight. Maybe similar in stature. He's got all the tools." Read more...
