  • Early 53 man roster speculation

Now that the draft is over, how do you see the 53 man roster shaping up? Here's a quick guess:

    Offense (25)
    Qb (3) manning, freeman, nassib
    RB (3) Jennings, Wilson, Williams
    Fb (1) hynoski/Connor
Wr (6) odb, Cruz, randle, jj, Manningham, Holliday
    Te (3) Robinson, Davis, donnell/grimble
OL (9) Beatty, Schwartz, richburg, snee, Pugh, brown, jerry, Walton

Would like to have another running back in there, either Hillis or cox. Maybe another tight end also to promote competition. However, I think we need the depth on the line and will still carry 3 qbs. Maybe we will use beckham as the return man, making Holliday expendable.

    Defense (25)
DL (9) jpp, Moore, ayers, kiwi, Jenkins, Hankins, Patterson, bromley, Kuhn
Lb (6) beason, Williams, paysinger, McClain, herzlich, kennard
Cb (6) drc, prince, Thurmond, McBride, bowman, hosley
    S (4) rolle, brown, demps, Taylor/hill

A few notes here. The versatility of Jenkins allows us to carry one less end, which helps with the crowded secondary. I'm not sure whether hill will be here or not, but I think demps makes the team for veteran depth either way. The last few corners can be a bunch of different guys.

Special teams (3) brown, weatherford, deossie

    Total: 53

Practice squad: I'm not too familiar with all of the practice squad rules, so some of these guys might not be eligible. Can anyone shed some light on it?
Berhe, Jackson, quarles, James, cox, donnell

Anyone else want to take a shot at it?

      Can't believe they'd only carry 3 RB's.

As long as they don't have an accrued season [on active 45 man roster for 6 games] and been PS'ed before for more than 2-3 seasons, then they are eligible for PS. I believe all of those guys are eligible.

Good catch. I would add Hillis or cox as a 4th running back.

I am not an expert but I don't know if we have ever taken 10 DBs into the season.

I think the biggest camp battles will be at DB (CB/S) and RB. I think Dan Fox and Jackson both make the team due to high character and excellent ST additions.

                  (25)
2 QB- Eli Manning, Josh Freeman
5 RB- Jennings, Williams, Wilson, Hynoski (Last spot battle - Cox, Hillis, Conner)
6 WR- ODB, Cruz, Randle, Jernigan, Manningham, Holliday
                  3 TE- Robinson, Davis, Grimble
9 OL- Beatty, Schwartz, Richburg, Snee, Pugh, Brewer, Jerry, Walton, Brown

                  (25)
9 DL- JPP, Hankins, Jenkins, Ayers, Kiwi, Moore, Kuhn, Bromley, Quarles
7 LB- Williams, Beason, McClain, Paysinger, Herzlich, Kennard, Fox
9 DB- Prince, Rolle, Brown, DRC, Berhe, Jackson, Demps, Thurmond, (Last spot battle - Hosley, Taylor, McBride)

                  (3)
                  ST-
                  Brown
                  DeOssie
                  Weatherford
                  LT (132.5) -> Strahan (141.5) -> Osi (65) -> Tuck (60.5) -> JPP (50) -> ???

                    Quarless
                    Burnett
                    James
                    Donnell

I might be forgetting some....I'm doing this on a whim.

At this point I don't want any part of knuckle-head Will Hill, he has burned all bridges IMO with FO and with players, can't keep letting down all of them.
I like new draft pick Nat Berhe if he can earn a spot.

Yeah, I can't see them carrying 3 RBs either, especially with the questions surrounding Wilson's health. I wouldn't mind the RB corps being Jennings, Wilson, Hillis and Williams, which makes Cox odd man out.
One of these teams is not like the others

I did one last night, here it is:

Projected 53-man roster (however, I do think we pick up a veteran TE like Finley or Keller):

                          OFFENSE: 25
                          QB: Eli Manning, Ryan Nassib

                          FB: John Connor
WR: Victor Cruz, Odell Beckham Jr., Rueben Randle, Jerrell Jernigan, Mario Manningham, Trindon Holliday

Pretty much agree with you, though I haven't seen much from Hosely.
