  • In light of draft, giving up Tuck was questionable

Now that the draft is finally over -- why did NYG give up on Tuck?

No real DL quality taken in the draft, and the roster is thin as well.

Tuck's best days are behind him and his pricetag would hinder us. I dont like some of our picks either, but lets first see how they do in fact pan out.
    2017 Draft Wishlist:
    1. Christian McCaffrey RB Stanford
    2. Raekwon McMillan ILB Ohio State
    3. Roderick Johnson OT Florida State
    4. Jordan Leggett TE Clemson
    5. Ryan Glasgow DT Michegan
    6. Chad Kelly QB Ole Miss
    7. Billy Brown WR Shepherd

Tuck will always be a true Giant, but it was time for he and the Giants to part ways. While I wanted the Giants to draft a DE, they signed a few DE's as UDFAs, so hopefully some of them will work out.
One of these teams is not like the others

Football has been very, very good to us.
After losing seasons 2013-15, the giants put up 11 wins in 16.. they are on way Back
But for now we can console ourselves with this fact-

        # of Super Bowl victories since 1985:

1-Chicago, St. Louis, Tampa Bay, Indianapolis, New Orleans, Seattle
        2-Washington, Green Bay, Pittsburgh, Baltimore
        3-San Francisco, Dallas, Denver
        4-New York Giants!!!
        5-NE
Let's make it 5 in 2016 so we can be on a LINE NE again!!!

I think that Ayers and Moore will replace Tuck's production

Tuck was my favorite player and I'm sad to see him gone but I cannot wait to see us release DAMONSTER Moore. I think this is his opportunity to shine.

I love what Tuck has given this team and he will always be one of my favorite Giants but he has been on a downward trend and played his butt off in a contract year. I think the Giants did the right thing in letting him go.

Tuck was a great player and amazing Giant and IMO the MVP of the first Super Bowl he won. We will never know what happened and what offers were made or turned down or for what reason.

As far as finding a replacement, well Giants fans have been spoiled for decades now. We went from LT to Strahan to Osi to Tuck to JPP. It is very rare for a team to find a pass rusher of that quality and we have always had one (at least since '81). It is foolish to think one will leave and we will be able to replace them in the draft of that same year. I am glad JPP is here and hope he is close to 100%. We have to see how Moore is as well.

Depending on how Moore and JPP pan out I expect us to target another pass rusher early next year.
                  LT (132.5) -> Strahan (141.5) -> Osi (65) -> Tuck (60.5) -> JPP (50) -> ???

Tuck has a good bit of gas left in the tank and other teams would have been able to pay him significantly more. They didnt give up on him, it was a business decision.

If we had given Tuck 5.5mill per season, shame on us. He should have gotten 1.5 per season and I'm sure he will only play one season on Oakland. We picked up a lot of pieces with savings from letting Tuck walk.

We are banking on JPP and the development of young talent. We will be tough against the run and we now have good corners to protect our pass rush deficiencies. Hopefully we get something out of Ayers and Moore and JPP lives up to the hype.

We basically replaced a 33 (?) year old Tuck with a 28 year old Ayers. Ayers isn't the pass rusher Tuck has been but I like the age differential, the price differential and the fact that Ayers is a solid run defender. We have 4 solid DE options in my mind in JPP/Ayers/Moore/Kiwi and there weren't many DE prosprects rated highly in the draft after Clowney.

I'd have liked to grab Donald but not at the cost of OBJ (a pick I'm happy with). Also would have preferred a Tuitt or Hageman but not over the Richburg pick. Wasn't thrilled with the Bromley pick but the fact we also have signed Quarles gives us a better chance that 1 or 2 of those guys will help our DL rotation out.

I think it was smart to move on from Tuck -- he put everything into having a big walk (FA) year last year and I could definitely see him dropping back off or getting reinjured this year.

I think people are assuming the Giants defense is going to play the same as they have in years past this is clearly a defense in transition and all the parts arent quite here. Its going to take 1 more offseason to get the edge rushers

Actually I do not agree on the "thin" account, at least not compared to last season.

If anything, I think we have far more depth at most positions at the expense of a couple starters.

I said from day 1 letting Tuck go was a bad call, supposedly he only wanted 2yrs 8mil from us, I think that would've been a steal. Shocked and disappointed we said no to that, people can talk about his "decline" all they want.. there still aren't many 4-3 DEs in the league that are better than Tuck and none of them could be had anywhere near that price range.

Also very disappointed we didn't take Kareem Martin in the 3rd round when we had the chance.
