Just look at Eli Apple, his NFL comparison was Sam Shields.
This is just so ridiculous. The Giants are not taking players on the defensive side of the ball based on their offensive scheme. They are building the best possible defense they can. The offense has zero to do with that. They took Eli Apple because they felt he was the best talent on the board.

2nd best player drafted in the last 3 years, after Odell, was Landon Collins. Coughlin was the HC. McAdoo was just the OC. But sure "different prototypes...."

You play defense to complement whatever offense you're running.

When the Giants were a run-first offense, Coughlin hired Perry Fewell (2010-2014) to run a read-and-react Cover-2 defense. A very formulaic approach. We saw in 2014 how terribly Fewell's scheme complemented the WCO.

Now that the Giants are a matchup passing offense, they are playing aggressive matchup defense.

Ben McAdoo would never hire a Perry Fewell style defensive coordinator to complement his offense. WCO is an aggressive offense by nature, so as a result, you have to play aggressively on defense as well. Matchup Defense.

what about when they were a run first offense in 07 and 08 and had Spags as DC. but now we run a WCO and guess what, we have Spags as DC again.

This is really bordering on ridiculous. Spags has been the DC for the Giants 2x. He has brought the same defensive principles both times. The offensive schemes however were completely different. McAdoos WC scheme and Gilbrides vertical scheme. Fail Mrs. Jerry

Once again, Coughlin hired Perry Fewell in 2010.

And why did he hire Perry Fewell? Because Spags left to be a HC. Spags has been the Giants DC for 2 completely different offensive schemes. Therefore, his D has very little to do with the offense. Both sides of the ball are looking for the best players. If they happen to fit a scheme...great. You know what, players that are really good will fit in any scheme. Odell is great in Mcadoos scheme and would have been great in Gilbrides. Know why? Because he is a great talent.

He could have hired any defensive coordinator he wanted. He chose to hire one that ran a conservative, reactionary, read-and-react Cover 2 prevent-style defense between-the-20's

If Giants were still running Gilbride's scheme in 2014, Odell would not have been drafted. The #1 receiver in Gilbride's offense was a big physical guy (Plax, Nicks). In the WCO, tho, Odell was the prototypical X. Greg Jennings 2.0

Just like, if Giants were running McAdoo's scheme in 2013, Pugh would not have been drafted.

How do you know that OBJ and Pugh would not have been drafted by the Giants? You're in over your head. Give it a ****ing rest. You make yourself look more stupid with every post.

Match of scheme fit + value. Simple, really.
