  • New proposal to the kicking game might take effect this yr.

The proposal being formulated Wednesday bans players on the kicking team from getting a

    running
start on their way downfield. It eliminates all forms of “wedge” blocking by the receiving team. It requires eight of the 11 members of the receiving team to line up within 15 yards of the spot of the kickoff and bars hitting within those 15 yards. It keeps players on the kicking team from going in motion pre-kick.

WTF! Just change the game to flag football & lower the ticket prices to $25 a person.

I don't see how this would matter much, players are up to full speed by the 10 yard mark when they will be contacting the first opponent anyway. This will just give the return man more time to run it back.

Without wedges and making them line up within 15 yards there is going to be a lot more open space. There should be more returns and they will be more open. Special teamers will need to be good open field tacklers.

So in other words, even more points scored in a game so it really will start to look like a Madden game with scores of 55-48. Today's game has slowly become a joke. Football is not a contact game people, it is a COLLISION SPORT! Don't wanna get hurt, don't wanna suffer a possible concussion, simple, don't play the damn game. These athletes know full well the dangers & consequences of playing the game of football, no one is pointing a loaded gun at their heads to play football. They love signing their names onto those multi million $$ contracts & then make millions more with endorsement deals, that comes at a price later on, their physical & mental health when they get older.

More open space means more speed at the point of contact. If they want to get rid of it do that, but this idea is dumb in that it will have no positive effect on injuries. Its doing something for the sake of looking like you are doing something.

Pretty soon, special teams will be taken outta the game completely. Just put dresses on all of them like Jack Lambert used to say about QBs back in the 70s-80s, it didn't happen then, but his prediction came true now as you barely have to touch a QB & a 15 RTP flag flies out.
