The Bengals have two 1st round picks.
Would you trade Osi and our 2nd round pick for one of their 1st round picks? Thats fair market value. That will give us 2 firsts round picks and maybe helps clear some cap space?

    Thoughts?

I doubt Cincy would bite. Maybe Cleveland would, with Atlanta's first pick, but they might need that to make a move for Griffin.

The Giants D Line & WR corp are the keys to another SB run. I wouldn't trade or let any of those go FA's if I were the GM. You can never have enough top quality DL men or WR Corp. IMHO anyway.

            Re: Trade proposal

how about we do this trade with the bengals instead. osi to them for their 3rd round pick #85 and a swap of first round picks.

if u do our 32 for their 17 and their third you get the equivalent traded value of 39th pick. if it is 21 for 32 you get the 52nd pick.

bengals might be more inclined to do that because they keep 3 top picks and get a player. we get the extra pick, maybe for a safety, tight end, rb, etc.

bengals r way under the cap and need to get closer in a year based on collective bargaining.

              Re: Trade proposal

If Osi does play out his contract his cap hit is a meager 3+ million not bad for a guy who is capable of 10 sacks even as a strict pass rusher on pass downs.

Overall, you have to play the board. If there is someone worth taking on your board, then you do it.

If there is a guy like Michael Brockers or a guy like Quinton Coples, or even Courtney Upshaw, then do it. But you have to add a body on the DL.

Or you can stay back and draft an end at 32, and take an OT like Jonathan Martin, or an OG like DeCastro, or an OG/OT like Glenn (if he is rising that much).

Some people wonder what the point in doing that is, trading a proven commodity for an unproven guy. Well, it would be cheaper, and you might get a potential star at the expense of trading an aging one dimensional player.

Why trade Osi? He's worth more to the team right now than a first round draft pick.

                    Re: Trade proposal

Don't think Osi would want to waste his time in Cincy. It's a cheap organization where the owner, Mike Brown calls most of the shots. There is no indoor practice facility there and even Carson Palmer, who had a huge contract there, couldn't wait to get out of Dodge. Osi would be miserable there playing for a losing team.

                      Re: Trade proposal

We will get a lower teir comp pick in the 2014 draft if we let Osi play out his contract and hit free agengy. I say keep him and get another years worth of service out of him for a cheap 3+ million salary and we still end up getting a good draft pick in return in the future.

                        Re: Trade proposal

I'd keep him. The depth is huge. If one of Tuck, Osi, or JPP go down we have a pro-bowl guy coming in. Not to mention the rotation we get when everyone's healthy. Nobody else in the NFL has that. I think we can get Osi on a low annual salary as long as it's a long enough / guaranteed enough deal. Pass rushers seem to have a good shelf life so I wouldn't hate a 4 year deal.

thank God you don't make the decidions for the team. Osi is staying with the Giants, so stop making up trades for him.

[/quote]Yeah I rather keep Osi and that deal of giving up a second round pick isn't a good ideal and we would have been screwed if the Giants made that type of trade.

Even Osi padded with a second rounder isn't worth it for other teams. First round picks are so valuable postCBA.
