GIANTS' JERREL JERNIGAN EXCITED FOR OPPORTUNITY TO PROVE HIMSELF

    "Wide receiver Mario
    Manningham
has yet to officially sign his new contract with the San
Francisco 49ers, but that hiccup aside, it remains highly unlikely that he
    returns to the New York
    Giants
. Instead, Big Blue appears poised to head into the 2012-2013 season
    with Domenik
    Hixon
    , Ramses
    Barden
    and Jerrel
    Jernigan
    battling for the #3 spot.

Patriots free safety Sterling Moore, left and free safety Patrick Chung in the
closing seconds of Super Bowl XLVI February 5, 2012, in Indianapolis. (UPI

A healthy Hixon would seemingly lead the charge and be the man to beat in
such a scenario, but going into his second season with the team, Jernigan
actually feels like he's the man whose job it is to lose.

"Its pretty much a business now and Im thankful for the opportunity to go
out there and show everybody what I can do. Im thankful that Coach Coughlin and
Jerry Reese are giving me an opportunity to step up to the plate and be the next
man," Jernigan said. "Coach will do the evaluation in the offseason
and during camp and stuff so well see but Im approaching it like Im the
    third receiver.

In his first year with the team, Jernigan hauled in a grant total of 0
catches for 0 yards. However, if you're looking for a silver lining there, it's
the same stat-line produced by Victor
    Cruz
in his first season with the team. Then again, Cruz finished his first
season playing five fewer games and eventually ended up on Injured Reserve
    (IR).

If Jernigan is serious about this opportunity, and it'd be foolish to believe
he wasn't, the first thing he'll have to do is prepare and produce well enough
to shed the nickname given to him by head coach Tom Cough: One Play JJ.

Is this another incredible success story waiting to happen? Time will tell,
but you've got to love his confidence."

[/quote]Really any of the three would be a story if they had a breakout season like cruz did.
Hixon cause of the two season ending injuries last 2 yrs.
JJ being a rookie and not playing at all in first yr like cruz
And Barden for same reasons as Hixon plus he was drafted with high expectations due to his height and comparison to plax
Football has been very, very good to us.
After losing seasons 2013-15, the giants put up 11 wins in 16.. they are on way Back
But for now we can console ourselves with this fact-

    # of Super Bowl victories since 1985:

1-Chicago, St. Louis, Tampa Bay, Indianapolis, New Orleans, Seattle
    2-Washington, Green Bay, Pittsburgh, Baltimore
    3-San Francisco, Dallas, Denver
    4-New York Giants!!!
    5-NE
Let's make it 5 in 2016 so we can be on a LINE NE again!!!

      0 catches for 0 yards......with only 3 targets all season :P.

I believe JJ can be a good #3 for us. I also think Hixon is most likely the one guy standing in front of him so he better work his *** off to prove he is better

Jernigan will get every opportunity as will Barden. Hixon has proven his ability and if his knee isn't a problem he may well emerge as the # 3 when all is said and done.

What they like about Hixon is his versatility

When JR picks a player in the first 3 rounds of a draft, he expects them to become a contributor by their 2nd year. I have a feeling we will see big things from JJ this year.

He knows the slot position very well and has incredible agility. I like his prospects.

I hope JJ does well, but I saw nothing in the return game that excited me. I think he is a poor mans wes welker and has to show something to be elevated above Barden and Hixon at this stage.

Honestly, I would love all 3 of these guys to have an impact this season rather than just one guy stepping up. I would love for each of them to play a roll in different formations and schemes. It will be beneficial in so many ways. Giving Eli more targets, creating more challenges for defenses to prepare for, added depth... So for me I am personally looking for all 3 guys to become a #3 receiver rather than just one guy. I hope they all contribute in their own way and make an impact on our offense

For those worried about JJ because he didn't much this season Toomer had 1 catch his rookie season and Manningham didn't do much his rookie season either.

We all know how good Toomer turned out being and now everyone is wondering how they replace Manningham. Give JJ a chance.

People have to understand there was no offseason last year. He was coming in cold and just never found it. Next season I expect a huge increase in productivity. Not like, Cruz huge, but like Manningham in his 2nd year huge (Manham had 57 catches, 800 yards, 5TDs). I think JJ could see something like 40 - 700 - 4TDs plus an improved return game.

By the way, Manham had 4 catches 26 yards 0 TDs his rookie year.

i agree Roanoke! i would love to see Hixon as the#3 on this team based on his experience and versatility.

im just afradhis knees may not hold up for an entire season.

i am hoping hes healthy and can contribute.

based on good off season work, training camp andpreseason i hope Jernigan and Hixonmake it a difficult decision for the Giants to pick a #3 receiver.
