NEW YORK GIANTS REPORTEDLY LOOKING TOWARD CONTRACT EXTENSION FOR TOM COUGHLIN

"While the offseason is typically focused on signing or releasing free agents,
there is also the issue of doing the same for the coaching staff. The New York
Giants
are looking to do just that in the near future with head coach,
Tom
Coughlin
.

Bart Hubbuch
reported via Twitter
(of the New York Post) that Giants owner, John
Mara
, is looking to establish a contract extension with Coughlin in
the coming weeks.

"John Mara
just told me the Giants expect to complete Tom
Coughlin
's contract extension in the next month to 6
weeks."

At the present time, Coughlin is only good through the 2012 season, but that
is likely to change soon. Coughlin's legacy with the New York
Giants
was ultimately solidified with last season's Super Bowl Championship;
his second with the Giants. As such, it is likely that the Giants organization
will allow Coughlin to call his own shots as far as contract extension goes.

In all likelihood, the Giants will give Coughlin a one-year extension and
allow him to do that for as long as he wants to, moving forward. Coughlin is in
his early 60's, so he could theoretically continue for several more years.
Frankly, most Giants fans around the globe would be happy to him running the
ship until he decides it's time for him to hang it up.

Stay tuned to Giants 101 for updates on Coughlin's contract and other free
agency information.

As in, heaven? Cause once he leaves, he wont be coaching anymore.

Im wondering if this is going to be another 1 year, erase the lame duck title, extention. I'm all for Coughlin staying here now, but we still havent figured out how to not struggle down the stretch. That is my concern. I feel like players wear thin of him through the season and kinda half *** it in the second half and dont stay focused. How do we lose that second Redskins game?! No way we should of let our guard down in that game. I guess it is just unexplainable.

Im all for Coughlin staying though, and becoming the greatest Giants coach of all time, which is something I never thought Id say.

BTW, he has THREE rings. He was theWR coach in 1990.

Mara has said it will be a multi-year deal
2 super bowls. TC, Tuck and Manning could suck for the rest of their careers and still be untouchable NYG legends so far as I am concerned.
We said that after 1 SB and people were ready to run them out of town this year.

Can't wait to bump this thread after our first loss next year, when there are 100 threads calling for TC's head . . . . .

I think he stays until 2014 to give himself the opportunity to coach in the SB in his own house. After that he hangs it up either way. Just a gut feeling.

Re: NEW YORK GIANTS REPORTEDLY LOOKING TOWARD CONTRACT EXTENSION FOR TOM COUGHLIN

When TC started his tenure at the GIANTS, I was happy to have a regimented coach after the Fassel Country Club. In the following years, after hearing the scuttlebutt from the locker room, and the public lambasting he received from veteran players including Mike Strahan and Tiki Barber, combined with his poor performance, I was anti-Coughlin. Then came 07- I watched the players rally around him, saw a 180 from Strahan, and watched Tiki get rebuffed by several players. I started to doubt my dislike of TC. As the season wore on, and I saw the team come close to beating the "UNDEFEATED", I began wondering if I was wrong. I took Dallas in stride, but after seeing him, red faced and stoic as ever as his team fought the elements and a veteran QB, survived missed FG's and marched into OT with no signs of "quit", going on to win the game that put us in Tempe, I began to like the crotchety old *******. Then came SB 42. He provided the leadership, as Spags and the defense showed NE that they were mortal.
He officially got a pass for the 08 season.
Then Burress .... well, we all know what Burress did. So, I extended that pass. The last couple of years, aside from some times where I questioned his clock management, I though he did well. In the past year, though, after a second SB, and the videos of him being hoisted by the players above the locker room after the first NE game, I have no doubts. He is universally respected, maybe not loved, but respected by the players. You can't buy that. In my opinion, TC has earned the right to stay until he decides to leave. Hopefully with another 2 Lombardi's under his tenure. Eli has 2 more in him. This year could be his third. TC has the opportunity to make Bill Parcels look like the second best coach in GIANTS history. Let the man show us why he should be considered the best coach in GIANTS history.
