• NFL owners voted to increase the 2012 salary cap by $7.6 m over last season - new cap $128.2 million?

Today NFL owners voted to increase the NFL salary cap by $7.6 million over last season.

Last season the cap was $120.6 million correct? So then the new cap would be $128.2 million?

No other info right now, who knows what this even means anyway.

Actually, from what I understand, the owner were originally going to lower the cap this season (as part of the agreement with the NFLPA to sanction the Cowboys and Redskins). The $7m+ raise probably includes whatever money they didn't lower the cap to. This WSJ article says the original cap this year was going to be $113m.

NFL owners ratified the agreement between the league and players' union that takes away $36 million in salary cap space from the Redskins and $10 million from the Cowboys.

Other than Dallas and Washington, no club voted Tuesday to oppose the agreement, which raised the salary cap for 2012 from about $113 million to $120.6 million.
Redkins and Cowboys won't have to worry about those numbers!
something is wrong with the wording of that article.....everything i have read confirms the 120.6 capfor this year....if the the redskins and Dallas end up paying the total penalty payed 1/2 this year 1/2 next I believe.....you can add 23 mil devided by 30"the rest of the teams" add that number to the 120.6 you should be close something around 122 mil

There's nothing wrong with the wording of the article. The proposed cap this year was going to decrease over 2011. As part of the agreement with the NFLPA for them to sign off on the sanctions they agreed to not decrease the cap, and in fact raised it slightly giving us the $120.6. This is one of the reasons they didn't release the cap numbers until so close to the start of FA. They then further allocated $1.6m in additional cap space to all but a handful of teams that engaged in the same type of behavior as Dallas and Washington, but on a smaller scale.

Idk but something is wrong with the 113 number last years cap was 120 mil to drop 7 mil for 2012, TR projections for this yearwould have had to nose dive.... anyhow beware of thetweeter's!!
