  • Scouting Yourself

    Its the off-season, nothing really to talk about so lets have some fun.

    For all those who played some sort of organized football, what would you say if you had to scout yourself? (Pros and Cons)

    I played High school Football in Brooklyn, NY (Brooklyn Panthers) and in Atlanta, GA (Rockdale County Bulldogs)

    Jabbar Avila – CB/S #36
    Cornerback/Safety
    Height 6-1 Weight 178 (HS)

    Pros::
    Instincts are above average and reads plays well off the snap. Smooth backpedal has surprisingly quick feet, wouldn't anticipate that due to his height. Stays home in zone coverage. Ok leaping ability, not great. Can run with most WR's at his level. Long arms will get alot of deflections.

    Cons::
    Not big on contact ,goes mostly for the legs of bigger opponents. Drops INTs frequently. Has good speed but takes awhile to get up there. Wouldn't line him up in man coverage too frequently. At 6-1 can add more weight to his frame. Really a true Safety plays Corner to fill team needs. Wouldn't hold up against D-1 competition.

    .......................And that's why i went to college as a full-time student. LOL

              Kevin Castro
              6'0
              175 lbs

              Pros: Great technician and a savvy overall player. Extends his arms against press, drops his pad level, and accelerates in his routes. Kevin can set up corners by changing speeds/being lethargic before making a break at full speed. Has great vision on the field and can settle in soft spots. Knows how to be sharp and make crisp, 90 degree breaks out of his cuts. Good hands catcher

              Cons: Not a great athlete, an overachiever. Doesn't have great quickness, elusiveness, explosiveness, or strength. Inconsistent hands. Not a vertical threat. Needs to set up corners to beat them most of the time. Poor upside. Doesn't have great leaping skills or elite hands. Not fearless over the middle. Pretty productive, high floor but limtied ceiling

              Mind you, this is based back in HS 4 years ago

                  Cons- gets high (way too much)
                  Needs to lose some wight and get faster to move to DE due to being too small For Highschool DT. Not experianced.
                  Druged up too much. too mellow at times
                  Pros- good strenght

                    4.8 in the 40- ***(only if I had a rocket up my ***)

                    Pros- Instinctive runner, great initial burst, elusive, shifty, great cut back runner. consistent ability to make the first tackler miss. surprising ability to break tackles. can run WR routes.

                    Cons- below average top end speed- I mean this kid is effing sloooooooooow! Not a real home run threat. inconsistent blocker. He keeps telling me he wants to play QB, pre-game Jagerbomb ritual is totally unacceptable.
                    Because of all of the effort and examination being poured into these predictions, the draft is a robust market that, in the aggregate, does a good job of sorting prospects from top to bottom.1 Yet despite so many people trying to “beat the market,” no single actor can do it consistently. Abnormal returns are likely due to luck, not skill. But that hasn’t stopped NFL executives from behaving with the confidence of traders.

                      Re: Scouting Yourself

                      Never played football. . .but played 4 years varsity Hockey back in HS:

                      Raggy
                      5'10" 190#
                      Defenseman

                      Pros: Excellent at keeping goaltender area free of traffic. Alert passer, and possesses above average quickness. Good strength and solid base, and will not be pushed around by forwards of any size. Rarely gets beat by finesse moves on the rush either. Will be able to contribute immediately on penalty-killing teams.

                      Cons: Skates a bit too "upright" and thus lacks top-end speed. Also, posture causes him to hit opponents high, giving him his fair share of penalties. Doesn't possess that "rocket" slapshot you look for at the point, in fact too often looks to pass. Often misses scoring opportunities due to defensive mindset. Fitness and stamina are in debate. . .in fact is often seen smoking cigarettes in the parking lot after games.

                      Analysis: Kid should probably stick to playing the banjo.

                        Pros: Uses hands well, plays with a nasty streak, nimble and quick in both pass and run blocking

                        Cons: A bit undersized for the position and doesn't have the bulk to get drive at the POA
