KELLEN WINSLOW JR: SHOULD THE NEW YORK GIANTS BE INTERESTED?

"Should the New York Giants be
    interested in tight end Kellen
    Winslow
if and when the Tampa Bay
    Buccaneers
cut him loose? The talented Winslow, 28, is not
in the plans of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers
-- that much has become obvious.

Let's make one thing clear -- the Giants are not going to make a trade
for Winslow. The guy has a $3.3 million salary for 2012, is signed for three
more years and has bad knees. Despite the 75 catches he made in 2011 trading for
a guy like this is not something the Giants so. What they do is sign a more
under-the-radar tight end with something to prove -- like they did with Martellus
    Bennett
    .

Still, if and when Winslow inevitably hits the free-agent market -- where his
price will likely be much lower -- is he worth at least kicking the tires
    on?

    Matt Bowen of the
    National Football Post is intrigued
by Winslow as a free agent
    , saying "a healthy, in-shape Winslow is still a
tough matchup for a safety that rolls down from the middle of the field in
    coverage."

The Giants have Bennett and they drafted Adrien
    Robinson
in the fourth round. Even with them around, would the 6-foot-4,
264-pound Winslow be worth the gamble?"

I didn't like his behavior in the past, he was definitely too immature when he first joined the league.

I think he'd be worth it though, IMO he's a proven pass catching TE that will warrant attention from the defense. Our man Ballard is rehabbing his knee, and I'm not sold on Bennett.

I know his knee issues were mentioned in another topic, but he hasn't missed a game in 3 seasons.

“Basically just stay with your man,” cornerback Janoris Jenkins said. “Follow him everywhere you go. Even if he goes to the bathroom, follow him.”

        No... we have enough "soldiers".

        2014 Draft:
Round 1 - Eric Ebron, TE - North Carolina
Round 2 - David Yankey, OG - Stanford
Round 3 - Allen Robinson, WR - Penn State
Round 4 - Anthony Johnson, DT - LSU
Round 5 - Rashaad Reynolds, CB - Oregon State
        Round 6 - Andrew Jackson, ILB - W. Kentucky
        Round 7 - ** Traded for Jon Beason **

well you always have to be a little intrigued

          Winslow is 28

now, A. Gates is about to turn 32 and T. Gonzalez is 36 ... both were certainly productive in their late 20s, early 30s and obviously im not comparing the talent level

he's not a great character guy, but he might come in thinking ... OK, this is my chance at a ring, let me do and say all the right things

i think the bigger issue will be that some club will want to pay him a little more than we do

then you have the roster issue ... we obviously want to give our rook a spot and time to develop ... Pascoe is our only returning TE ... Beckum would get cut unless we could get away with putting him on season ending IR ... Ballard could go on PUP, but then come midseason we may have a tough decision to make ... certainly we will have picked up more injuries, but if a TE doesn't get hurt, can you really afford 4 TEs on the roster?

He was treated unfairly for that comment. Football players have been making military references about themselves since they were wearing leather helmets.

I'd try it out for a low contract

I guess we then have to figure out who gets released if we make a deal with Winslow? I'm thinking Beckum. Pascoe is more versatile and blocks.

Nah, that comment was an incredibly dumb one to make when we had actual soldiers overseas in harm's way.

In his defense, though, he seems to have learned from that ans has toned down his act in the pros . . . .

do we have room under the cap? I am all for competition at TE and truely don't believe Beckum is worthy of keeping his roster spot but it wouldn't bother me either way if we brought Winslow in.

After losing seasons 2013-15, the giants put up 11 wins in 16.. they are on way Back
But for now we can console ourselves with this fact-

                          # of Super Bowl victories since 1985:

1-Chicago, St. Louis, Tampa Bay, Indianapolis, New Orleans, Seattle
                          2-Washington, Green Bay, Pittsburgh, Baltimore
                          3-San Francisco, Dallas, Denver
                          4-New York Giants!!!
                          5-NE
Let's make it 5 in 2016 so we can be on a LINE NE again!!!

We have Bennett, Robinson, Pascoe, Hopkins already in Camp. We also have 2injured TEs that will start season on PUP list Ballard and Beckum.

Dont think we need Wilslow IMO
