I wonder why they waived Ballard but not Beckum

Not surprised. That was a major injury he suffered I the Super Bowl. He may not be ready until the start of the 2013 season.

Team took their physicals today didn't they? I wonder if he's further back in rehab than hoped.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't there a type of situation where you have to waive/injured a player in the offseason to put them on IR (much like we had to do with Chad Jones in previous years)?

Either way, I don't think we'll have to worry about a team picking him up off waivers/as a FA when he likely won't play this season. If his knee checks out he may end up being a Giant in '13.

Yes, it appears he didn't pass the physical. Too bad.

yea I think they will, this will allow them to have the freedom to do what they want but also sign him back for cheaper etc. It sucks and unlucky but it happens...now the question is who do we sign to take his place....

there are 4 tight ends on the roster...what makes you think anyone will be signed other than possibly bodies for camp?

Dude might not be ready till 2013. Not a suprise at all. I can see the giants bringing him back when he proves that he is healthy again.

What makes you think they were counting on Ballard playing this year anyway?

I thought it was pretty likely he was going to miss the entire season.

My guess is Martellus Bennett and Adrien Robinson.

ive said this was likely to happen for some time.

the injury he had is gonna cost ballard a step he cant afford to lose.

i still know the giants will revisit with him down the line if hes still available, but i think this could even be gthe giats trying to do the right thing. he can explore other contracts now and we just gave him 500,000 a month or two ago and resignedhim for a year knowing he wouldnt play. he got his money. now they are doing this in a numbers move or to free up space.

this doesnt mean its the end of the line with the giants for ballard, it just means for now we're going a diff. direction

I don't even think we're going to go in a different direction... At least not yet. I expect the Giants to place him on IR after he clears waivers. And who in their right mind will claim the kid off waivers in his condition?
