GIANTS' ROOKIE DAVID WILSON ENTERING SEASON WITH LIST OF GOALS

    Excerpt: "
The Giants used their first-round draft pick on David Wilson, hoping the former Virginia Tech running back can help boost their ground game from last year's last-in-the-NFL rank.

Turns out, the rookie has some expectations of his own, too.
Wilson said he wrote out a list of goals for the season yesterday, five days before the Giants' season opener against the Cowboys. He sheepishly admitted that he doesn't have a printer, so he asked position coach Jerald Ingram to type it up and print it out for him today. Wilson plans to hang the paper in his locker. What's on the list?" Read more...

GIANTS ATTEMPTED TO CLAIM SAFETY SERGIO BROWN, TACKLE WILLIE SMITH OFF WAIVERS

    Excerpt: "
The Giants claimed offensive tackle D.J. Jones off waivers earlier today. He wasn't the only one they went after.
According to someone informed of the NFL transactions, the team put in claims for two other players: safety Sergio Brown and offensive tackle Willie Smith." Read more...

FORMER GIANTS' RUNNING BACK DJ WARE SIGNS WITH TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS

    Excerpt: "
Former Giants running back D.J. Ware, released by the team on Friday, has signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the team and Ware's agency have announced.
Ware, who lost out to Andre Brown and Da'Rel Scott for the final spots behind Ahmad Bradshaw and David Wilson on the Giants' roster, will join former Giants quarterbacks coach Mike Sullivan in Tampa.Sullivan was a Giants assistant coach from 2004 through this past season and is now the Buccaneers' offensive coordinator." GIANTS' WILL HILL COMPLETES CLIMB AND EARNS ROSTER SPOT

    Excerpt: "
Eleven days ago, on Aug. 21, Tom Coughlin said “it’d be a nice story” if Will Hill could somehow make the Giants 53-man roster. The Jersey City native was enjoying a standout training camp fresh off a journey that had him go from a star at St. Peter’s Prep and Florida to suspended in 2010, undrafted in 2011 and the Arizona Rattlers of the Arena Football League last season.
Now he is officially a Giant.Hill was one of the 53 players still on the roster after the 9 p.m. cutdown deadline last night. He rounds out a group of safeties that includes three veterans — Antrel Rolle, Kenny Phillips and Stevie Brown." Read more...

GIA NTS PLACE TERRELL THOMAS, SHAUN ROGERS ON SEASON ENDING IR

Excerpt: "Terrell Thomas wrote on his blog late last week his goal was to play in the regular-season opener this Wednesday. It seemed unrealistically optimistic and perhaps a bit of a preemptive public-relations strike.
If so, it didn’t work.Thomas was placed on injured reserve — and not the new temporary kind — as the Giants pared their roster to 53 players tonight.

The move means the former projected starting cornerback’s season is over, at least with the Giants, as the aggravation of his surgically repaired anterior cruciate ligament early in training camp proved to be too much for his return to the field this year, in the Giants’ estimation." COWBOYS' JASON WITTEN'S CHANCES OF PLAYING VS GIANTS "NOT GOOD" DUE TO SPLEEN INJURY, REPORT SAYS

    Excerpt: "
A few weeks ago, Jason Witten's status for the regular-season opener against the Giants was in doubt. Now five days before the game, nothing has changed.
Which means Witten's status is apparently that much more in doubt. As Dallas Cowboys coach Jason Garrett told reporters on Thursday, Witten has yet to be cleared to play after lacerating his spleen in a preseason game against the Oakland Raiders.ESPN's Adam Schefter takes it a step further by saying sources told himWitten's chances of playing on Wednesday are "not good." COUGHLIN: T2 MOVE WAS BEST FOR PLAYER AND TEAM

Excerpt: " Tom Coughlin didn’t offer much of an explanation on Saturday about why the Giants decided to end Terrell Thomas’ season, except to say that he felt it was the right move for both the player and the team.

Coughlin said that “medically speaking … we felt in the best interests of the player and the team that this was the direction we should go with both Shaun Rogers and Terrell Thomas.” Rogers was placed on season-ending IR with a blood clot in his calf and Thomas was IR’d due to an “aggravated” ACL in his right knee." SEASON OVER FOR TERRELL THOMAS, AGAIN

Excerpt: "For the second time in two years, Terrell Thomas’ season is over before it began.

And this time his Giants career may be over too.

The fifth-year cornerback, who missed most of training camp with an “aggravated” right ACL – the same ACL he tore in Aug., 2011 – was placed on season-ending injured reserve on Friday as the Giants trimmed their roster from 75 players to 53. He was joined on IR by veteran defensive tackle Shaun Rogers, who has a blood clot in his leg.

The move wasn’t a completely shock, but it may have surprised Thomas who talked early this week of his desire to return in time for the regular season opener on Wednesday night. He had been hopeful ever since he re-injured his knee on July 29 and the three doctors who examined him agreed he didn’t need surgery, just rehab and rest." Read more...

GIANTS' COACH: THOMAS ON IR WAS IN BEST INTEREST OF ALL

    Excerpt: "
Tom Coughlin did not shed much light on the decision to put cornerback Terrell Thomas on season-ending injured reserve, saying on Saturday that the move was based on two key factors.

“I’m just gonna make a simple statement which is not an answer to something as complex as that,’’ Coughlin said. “We felt in the best interest of the player and the team that this was the direction we should go with both Shaun Rogers and Terrell Thomas. Certainly it’s a difficult thing.

“We have to think not only in the best interest of the player but also of the club and exactly where we’re at.’’ Read more...

OPPORTUNITY KNOCKS, AND OJOMO ANSWERS THE CALL

    Excerpt: "
As he polished off an ultra-impressive preseason with the biggest play of a forgettable game, Adewale Ojomo for the first time was presented with a scenario never really openly discussed: What happens if you actually make the Giants’ final roster?

Ojomo, a big man with a gently way of speaking, was flattered.

“It would be a great honor,’’ Ojomo said earlier this week. “This is a first-class organization. From the coaching staff to everybody, very mature guys on this team, so I would love to be a part — besides the high taxes and the high rent — besides that I would love to be a part of this city and this team.’’ Read more...

OJOMO GOES FROM UNKNOWN TO A PLACE ON THE ROSTER

    Excerpt: "
“There is a perfect example of a young man for whom preparation meant opportunity and he succeeded,” Tom Coughlin said. “He worked and he worked and he worked and he enjoyed playing. He got confident. He sized up the opponent and he made timely, timely plays throughout the entire preseason. He played on special teams. He earned the opportunity to have his spot.” Read more...

YOUR 2012 NEW YORK GIANTS...FOR NOW

    Excerpt: "
The Giants trimmed 22 players from their roster to get down to the 53-player limit by Friday night. For now – and we mean for now – here are the 2012 New York Giants, understanding that a few players might be added and others subtracted when the Giants assess the cuts around the league:" Read more...

GIANTS PLACE CB ON IR AGAIN

    Excerpt: "
The Giants are about to embark on another season and, once again, Terrell Thomas will not be along for the ride.

For the second consecutive year, Thomas has been placed on injured reserve, meaning the cornerback will miss a second straight season because of an ongoing issue with his right knee. The Giants and Thomas held out hope this most recent problem with his right anterior cruciate ligament might not be as serious, but yesterday was the deadline to get to the 53-player roster limit and it was the opinion of the team’s medical staff Thomas was not going to be able to make it on the field." GIANTS' PRINCE AMUKAMARA LIKELY TO MISS WEDNESDAY'S GAME, WILL BEATTY, MICHAEL BOLEY RETURN TO PRACTICE

Excerpt: "In one of the first revelation of the regular season, New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin told reporters on Saturday that cornerback Prince Amukamara (ankle) is unlikely to play in their week one matchup against theDallas Cowboys.

The news wasn't as bad for cornerback Jayron Hosley and defensive tackleMarvin Austin, whom Coughlin said both have a chance to play on Wednesday. For Austin, they've seen a lot of progress and are targeting a week two return at the latest. For Hosley, it's all about pain tolerance and how much he can deal with – if he can put up with it, he'll likely play in week one." Read more...

Excerpt: "For the second straight year, New York Giants cornerback Terrell Thomas has been placed on season-ending Injured Reserve (IR), this time coming after he "aggravated" his surgically repaired ACL. NOTEBOOK: BOLEY RETURNS TO PRACTICE

Excerpt: "Linebacker Michael Boley will return to practice Saturday after missing much of the preseason with a hamstring injury.

Coach Tom Coughlin also said left tackle Will Beatty (back) will work this weekend in an effort to play against the Cowboys on Wednesday. Several other Giants with injuries are going to practice as well, including defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul (back).

Cornerback Jayron Hosley (toe) is expected to at least do individual work Saturday, and the team will see how he feels afterward.

"We are going to see what he is like," Coughlin said. "It is more of a test than anything else. Is there a level of pain tolerance?" Read more...

NFC EAST: 4 QUESTIONS, 4 ANALYSTS

Excerpt: "The one constant in the NFC East over recent history has been change at the top. Perennially one of the NFL’s toughest division titles to win, the Cowboys, Eagles, and last year’s Super Bowl champ Giants have each twice worn the crown over the past six years–with none able to repeat the feat since Philadelphia’s run at the top ended in 2005.

All three look to again be poised to contend, and even the Redskins, who haven’t won the title since 1999, have reason for excitement with the arrival of rookie QB Robert Griffin III. Can a breakout player or a standout rookie be the determining factor? Our analysts check in with their picks." Read more...

A player cannot participate on the Practice Squad for more than three seasons.

September 4 -- Deadline at 4:00 p.m., New York time, for all NFL Player Contracts, Practice Player Contracts, tender offers, and miscellaneous amounts to fit within each club's 2012 Salary Cap, in anticipation of the midnight expiration of the Top 51 Rule.

September 5 -- Deadline for Clubs to submit written request to receive up to $1.5 million in additional Salary Cap Room for the 2012 League Year, in accordance with CBA Article 11, Section 5(e)(ii).
