  • Giants' RB Da'Rel Scott undergoes knee surgery

    http://www.giants101.com/2012/10/17/...-knee-surgery/

    Excerpt: "
New York Giants backup running back Da'Rel Scott was at the Hospital for Special Surgery on Tuesday receiving surgery on a torn meniscus in his right knee. He is expected to miss several weeks. The Giants have not yet made a roster move.

Scott has only had six carries so far through 2012 for a grand total of nine yards. With Ahmad Bradshaw, Andre Brown, and David Wilson ahead of him on the depth chart, Scott has seen very limited action on offense. With that,David Wilson's explosive kick off returns have negated his value to the Giants on special teams. Although Scott has breakaway speed, he has yet to showcase a physical style of play. Does this give Reese wiggle room for Canty or Will Hill to return?

Scott was a waste of a roster spot anyway. Hope recovers quickly though.

I'm not sure that's true. He finds himself behind other players who are developing faster. But, assuming you're right, he can hit IR and save us someone who can be a potential benefit for us this season.

I don't agree. depth is a wonderful problem to have. even if his pass blocking wasn't the best.

He is a very good ST player, and has utility in his experience at WR, HB, KR, and PR. Its nearly impossible to find depth players that are any MORE useful than Scott.

Well, now we know why they brought back Joe Martinek and put him on the PS.

Useful. Lol. By my reckoning in his Giants career so far he's had 11 carries for 24 yards. As the article says, even if he remained healthy he would hardly make an impact. He'd be at least 7th on the depth chart at WR and 4th at HB, KR and PR. You got me with special teams. I already wished him a speedy recovery but it's not as though we've just lost the 2nd coming of Percy Harvin.

Its more important for depth players to be great ST players than it is for them to be good starters. Giants already have good starters at HB. They need good ST players.

Fair enough. I hadn't really noticed him much on ST this year but if you say he's very good then he'll be a loss.

Glad Andre Brown is healthy again so that we that we have a stable of backs if needed but who will fill Scott's role on Special Teams ?
