  • Coach's Big Decision: Splitting Carries

Excerpt: "Ahmad Bradshaw is questionable for Sunday's game, having missed Wednesday's and Friday's practice with a foot injury, but he should play against the Redskins. While the running back is coming off back-to-back 100-yard games and has played great, the big decision will be how to use him and the other backs.

While you want to ride a back when he's playing as well as Bradshaw is, if the Giants continue to use him like this, they will wear him down and possibly open him up to further injuries. Bradshaw has rushed the ball 57 times the last two weeks, and has struggled to stay healthy during his career. Continuing to give him the ball 25-plus times might not be what the Giants want to do to keep him running smooth.

If the Giants decide to cut back on Bradshaw's carries, they will then have to choose how to split them between Andre Brown and David Wilson. Brown played really well before his concussion, and this will be his first game back. In the past two games, though, Wilson has played his best football, scoring a touchdown and showing why the Giants invested a first-round pick in him. " Read more...

    Good article, thanks for posting.

I do hope to see them giving more time to Brown and Wilson, not because I think they are better but because I worry that Bradshaw will wear down and not be available later in the season when we really need him. In the limited time we have seen him, Brown has proven to be a capable RB that runs tough. Wilson has shown he can be very explosive... so both will draw attention from the defense and hopefully prevent the Skins from loading up against the pass too much.

The one drawback is that there is a drop-off in pass protection ability when Bradshaw is out, but the O-line has been solid making that less of a concern. It will be interesting to watch how all the weapons are used now that the team is relatively healthy on both sides of the ball. I think we are finally starting to see what this team is really capable of doing.
My goal had been to win a championship, work toward the Hall of Fame, have my jersey retired by the team and I`d go in as a lifelong New York Giant, but I`m now resigned to the fact that this won`t happen. -- Michael Strahan, just when you think you're down...
