  • How do we get defenses out of the 2 deep man under that is killing us?

Third and long, 2 deep safety, press man coverage. That is what is killing our passing game. A very basic defense that is run in high schools across the country.
Nicks isnt healthy enough to get open and cruz is conversely getting all that extra attention. Paging Domenik Hixon, Reuben Randle and Ramses Barden. Somebody needs to step up and make some plays.

    1) Get Locklear back on the field. No more of this 2010 O'hara part II...
    2) With Locklear on the field, have Beckum and Cruz run cross routes from opposite sides to expose the middle of the field.
    3) Have Brown pound it up the middle, get some screens for Wilson drawn up.
    4) ????
    5) PROFIT!

In all honesty though, until we prove we can run the ball or do short passes with some consistency, teams are always just going to leave 2 deep against us. Putting a safety in the box would set us up nice for some play action...

Teams have been playing 2 deep man under on us for years. It is 1 of the most common defenses in the NFL.

Yet Killdrive seems to think that stuffing the box is more common for some reason...

True but they are playing much more press coverage than they have in recent years. I get the feeling that the coaches tell the CBs to play an extremely aggressive press coverage even at the risk of PI since it hurts less on average than to allow constant 10-15 yard receptions.

This! The Steelers knew that we couldn't run the ball.

That is the only right answer here. Our run game scares no one.
I stopped fighting my inner demons. We're on the same side now.

You need to swing the ball to the backs out of the backfield with dump-offs as the receivers run deep. Also shovel passes, screens and hitting the TE would work . Put 3 backs in the backfield, or even put a TE in the backfield and throw to him or run different sets out of it. It's ok to dink-dunk infront of the deep defensive sets which will
draw them up and THEN you can throw deep.
Lately I'm guessing what the Giants are doing before the ball is snapped by looking at the set and I am correct 75% of the time and if I know it you can bet the Giants opposition do to.

You can't unless we run the ball great or a 3rd wr steps up...or if we go more with an west coast offense style of passing.
                      sigpicShould the Giants fire Gilbride....

So all of you guys think we should run the ball on 3rd and long? Well, personally I think that we need to run the slant more and get the TE, RBs and even our FB more involved since we know he has hands in the passing game. The middle of the field is consistently WIDE OPEN. We need to switch it up and have the slot man come in and chip so that the TE can release. Overall we need to run the ball more consistently which is pretty obvious at this point, but in 3rd and long we need to be utilizing the players/positions I mentioned above more often.

Its simple look at the packers, saints ,texans, etc them wrs hardly get doubled cuz they run 3,4,5 wr sets meaning safetyz gotta come dwn to cover meaning at least 2 mano vs mano with no over the top help

1 Bunch recievers on wide side of field. Run x routes within 1st 5 yards to confuse the coverage DB's to start.
2 Have 1 WR go in motion to bunch with another WR @ snap. Same thing you'll have the DB's getting into each other way.
Every other team does it why not ours?
