  • 2012 DT starters

just to change it up a bit from what was a devestating loss yesterday. Im not the biggest fan of canty and alot of people here dont like him or his contract either, so, should we cut/trade him after the season and draft/FA a DT for depth and go with linval and austin in the middle next year? it seamed like rb's would easily make their way up through the middle of our defense this year and i believe two big bodies (joseph/austin) would plug that up.
now i know our linebacker help has been hard to come by plugging the gaps but im not sold on a 3/4 defensive end being the solution at DT for us anymore....bring on the big bodies i say.

Joseph and Marvin, time to cut lose of Canty's contract, we have bigger and better players we have to sign like Nicks we need to start making room...

Cutting Canty would depend on the cap ramifications. Many times, it's simply not worth it to cut a player if the cap hit is almost equal to your savings, AND you then have to replace that player.

Canty is a starting caliber DT. Unfortunately he's a good DT that got paid like a great DT. Which he is not.

However, how can you be so sure about starting Austin who hasn't played football in two years, and you want to plug him in as a starter? That's nuts. We have no idea what the kid can do.

Hopefully he can come in next year and combine with Canty and Joseph to give us a good trio of DTs'. They may need to add another guy with that as well.

All Hail The New York Giants!!

Can redo Cantys contract or release him depending on Fa and if they can pick someone up. Also I think they need to draft a DT pretty high.

But there's no way they can depend on Austin at all.

Cuz Austin is a dominating player when he was playing? And I seem to recall a certain JPP who hit the ground running as a rook...you gonna deny Austin the same opportunity to prove himself?

Not having cofield this season has been glaring
Football has been very, very good to us.
After losing seasons 2013-15, the giants put up 11 wins in 16.. they are on way Back
But for now we can console ourselves with this fact-

              # of Super Bowl victories since 1985:

1-Chicago, St. Louis, Tampa Bay, Indianapolis, New Orleans, Seattle
              2-Washington, Green Bay, Pittsburgh, Baltimore
              3-San Francisco, Dallas, Denver
              4-New York Giants!!!
              5-NE
Let's make it 5 in 2016 so we can be on a LINE NE again!!!

Totally agree. At the time I thought it was a really big mistake to let him go. We can't stop my grandmother from running through the line.

And what is the common theme in all of these posts? Jerry Reese doing a horrible job as GM. Time to stop living off of 2007. Since then he has been terrible with FA and the draft except for a few picks (JPP, Nicks)

[/quote]They would only save 3.5 million next year.In 2013 and 2014 though they would be getting 7.5 million and 7.75 off the books. So they could cut him and pay the player that is replacing him more money in those years
