  • Super Coal: After Loss, Giants Will Spend Christmas On Brink Of Elimination

Excerpt: "They knew what was at stake and fully understood that their playoff chances hinged completely on a win over the Ravens.

And now, the Giants don’t know anything at all, except that they will almost certainly not be in the playoffs.

Instead of winning on Sunday, in their most critical game of a season gone mad, they delivered the most inexplicable performance of the year. The Giants stepped onto the field armed with the knowledge that they needed to win their final two games of the season to clinch a playoff berth.

They left with a 34-13 blowout loss to the Ravens that shattered their already-fragile confidence, left their coach nearly speechless and all but eliminated them from a postseason that they don’t even believe they belong in.

“Do we deserve it by the way we played? Do we?” defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul said. “I don’t think so, man. We went out there and p---- on our legs. That’s really all I can say.”

The defending Super Bowl champions are now playoff longshots after turning in a second straight listless performance and their fifth setback in seven games, and several players sounded ready to concede the season.

Tailback Ahmad Bradshaw said the Giants are “playing for pride” next Sunday against the Eagles, and JPP added that “we’ve got just one more game to play, and we’re going to play it out.

“Try to get the win,” Pierre-Paul said, “try to get 9-7, it’s better than 8-8.”

They can still make the playoffs; they’ll need a win over the Eagles, a loss or tie by the Cowboys and losses by the Bears and Vikings. But if that unlikely scenario doesn’t work out, the Giants (8-7) will go the way of the 2009 Pittsburgh Steelers, the last team to miss the playoffs the season after winning the Super Bowl. And it would be the third such time in Big Blue’s history. Yet the defending champs are ready for their fate." Read more...
