9-7 was good enough to win the division and the Super Bowl last year.
9-7 was not good enough to get a Wild Card this year.

Last offseason, many fans were worried about the offensive line and the linebackers. Very little was done to address either unit. Locklear was serviceable, and Rivers was basically a retread.

It's not suprising that the offensive line sometimes struggled, and as a result, the running game suffered, and Manning was often under pressure. For sure, Manning had some poor games. But a good defense and/or good running game can bail out a QB that is struggling. I don't recall a single game in which that happened in 2012.

It's also not a surpise that the defense was sometimes completely trampled, and the linebackers struggled in those games.

I really hope that the front office decides to focus on these two positions next draft and free agency, because if not, there is no reason to think this team will be outside the 8-8 to 10-6 range next year.
