  • We Were Last In Sacks?

I know our D-Line underperformed all year long, but here's a stat I just read that I had no idea...

...We're dead last in the league in sacks. Ummm...wow. Dead last. The team with the most sacks (the Cardinals) have almost triple the amount of sacks we had.

    I hadn't heard that.

So much for our "vaunted pass rush".

When that statistic is put next to the Giants, and any team for that matter, To think we had a chance at the playoffs is amazing.

Our Dline is average (or below) It may take years to get a dominant pass rush again that's why we need to fix this secondary

That is sacks given up. The Giants were ranked 22nd this season with 33 sacks. Denver & Rams were tied for 1st.

Giants were 22nd with 33 sacks. Three more than the Jets and Eagles. Very sad.

Yeah, those are offensive stats. We only gave up 20 sacks.

i believe the DL as a unit had the least sacks compared to other DL's. Dont think our team total was worst tho...I remember during one of the games the past month, the telecast displayed that stat about dl's and the commentators couldn't believe it and were discussing its effects. I know at one point the past 4 or 5 games, our DL had the fewest sacks by a DL league wide...

And 4 more than #1 seed Falcons.

And only 5 less than SF, 4 less than Patriots, Steelers, Ravens. Where you going with this?

We had 33 sacks, yes. Down quite a bit from last year, and down from what we are accustomed to, no question. And no surprise to any one watching Giants this year,.

But Rams had 52, Miami 42, Tennessee and Carolina 39. And where are they this weekend? Watching from their couch like us.

This only shows that sacks are a nice glamour stat, but in and of themselves are an overrated individual stat, as Reese himself admits.

We were also tied for 3rd most interceptions (21) behind Chicago and Arizone, and tied for 4th most fumble recoveries (14). We were 4th best in positive turnover ratio (+14).

These stats are at least as important--many argue more important--than simply sack totals. What's most important in evaluating the front 7 attack is the overall pressure on QBs--sacks, hurries, hits, knock downs. For the most part, the games we won we did well in all pressure areas, and the games we lost we did poorly in overall QB pressure. That's where the inconsistency hurt us, not the lower sack total per se.

Why do u think Ive been so adamant about drafting a pass rusher all season. Tuck and Osi are done. Tuck went from being 2nd in pressures from 2008-2010 to never getting near the QB. Thats why this Defense isnt any good. We are a defense built on a pass rush with 1 quality pass rusher. I think we need 2 DE's or a speed rusher and an every down Strongside end to replace Tuck. Relying on the possible long shot emergence of Tracy or Ojomo is not a plan. Giants need to bring in as many high end defensive lineman as they possibly can

Next year's draft, let's trade up for Clowney

now I believe this to be true I do recall it, but I could easily be incorrect or misheard. Anyways, what I remember thinking, at the time they were talking about it, that it explained an awful lot. especially why we were never stopping 3rd downs. i mean i cant remember a season we allowed teams to convert 3rd and 20plus's, it was disgusting. even on plays where 40 yards was needed ala the dallas hail mary, we were a finger tip away from giving that up! it just seemed like our DL was never getting home.

it got to the point when we do get a sack, im surprised and angry at the same time, "about damn time..." Its nothing like before where we'd get pressure and or a sack no ifs ands or buts on 3rd and 8s. maybe im being too nice even and just recalling the DL from the playoffs, i dunno. last year they werent their dominant selves outside JPP and a hurt Osi.

But yeah, id say itd be a strong reason we r nt in the playoffs, maybe the biggest reason.

I've had my eye on him since he's been in South Carolina. Unless he gets injured he's going to be a top 3 pick in the draft. Maybe even 1st overall. I don't believe in trading the farm for a player, but I would consider doing that for Clowney.
