  • Safe To Say Jacquian Williams Is The Best LB Ever...

Drafted in the Jerry Reese era.

Was just going over some of the LB prospects in this years draft. It got me thinking about all the LB's the Giants have drafted and where they are now concerning the 2013 roster.

    2007: DeOssie (4th round)
2008: Bryan Kehl (4th round), Jon Goff (5th round)
    2009: Clint Sintim (2nd round)
    2010: Phillip Dillard (4th round)
2011: Greg Jones (6th round), Jacquian Williams (6th round)
    2012: N/A

The only two available are DeOssie and Williams and we all know Zak is primarily used on ST's and as the LS.

The Giants have a lot of needs this year in the draft. In the past, the Giants didn't appear to place high value on LB's....with the way the Redskins and Eagles are generating a lot of speed on offense with new looks, schemes and such....do you see a different value being placed on the way the Giants approach the line-backing position this year regarding the draft?

obviously with these new offenses speed will be essential when developing a defense against them!

i would think faster linebackers and d-ends will be drafted just to counter this pistol offense!

You could have just stopped at ever. I'm sure there would be a large contingent to agree with you there.

Ogletree and jaquain in the nickel = speed to the max

We haven't drafted a solid linebacker since Jessie Armstead.
            That was 1993 folks...

Besides Clint Sintim the Giants haven't drafted a LB earlier than the 4th round. I was really high on Sintim that year too but scheme wise, he didn't fit well. Would've have been better if the Giants used him like pass rusher like the Broncos do with Miller.

Being that 2007 isn't that far away...it's kind of sad that the Giants only have 1 LB left who actually plays the position. And a 6th rounder at that.

haha...I think we can all agree it might be time for Reese to change his tune.

Yeah, enough with the dumpster-diving for LBs....it's really starting to show.

I think a DT is more important than a LB for our team. The most efficient way to improve our pass rush and our run defense is by upgrading the DT position.
Because of all of the effort and examination being poured into these predictions, the draft is a robust market that, in the aggregate, does a good job of sorting prospects from top to bottom.1 Yet despite so many people trying to “beat the market,” no single actor can do it consistently. Abnormal returns are likely due to luck, not skill. But that hasn’t stopped NFL executives from behaving with the confidence of traders.

I think the Giants defense last year was a very good reflection of the linebacker position. TE's like Jason Witten totally abused the middle of the field.....running backs churned out yards by the truckload.

I blame alot of it on Fewell's Lovie Smith's Tampa 2 defense.....the difference is that Lovie has Lance Briggs and Urlacher, and we don't.

So, the front office shold either get the linebackers to play the Tampa 2 effectively, or else the coaching staff should design a scheme that is tailored to Reese's mediocre linebackers. Maybe they should huddle up on that in the offseason.

We've shown we can win without good linebackers, but that list is truly depressing to say the least.

What ever happened to Dillard? Had such high hopes for the young man... Nebraska right?

With that said, if Te'o or Ogletree are available at 19, who here really believes Reese pulls the trigger? I sure don't.

I'm going to argue the opposite......that when we get good production out of our linebackers, the defense takes a huge step up.

                              Examples:

2007: Antonio Pierce and Kawika Mitchell both were very productive.Torbor was good, and Kiwi also played well until he got injured.
                              .
2011: Chase Blackburn was signed in time to take stabilize the LB position. JWill started to come on. Boley had a career year.

I've been beating this drum for years.....a playmaking LB would turn this defense into a potentially dominating unit. But right now, there isn't a single LB on the team that any opposing offensive coordinator needs to worry about. Which is why they are free to double and triple up guys like JPP.
