lets be real, playing NFL QB is the toughest and most demanding, and highest profile position in all of sports. they take a beating and are expected to just get up and perform at a high level. Afruad is making $30 million for pete's sake over in MLB, $20 million for a 2 time super bowl MVP who always gives you a chance to win is a bargain, lol.

You pay what the market rate is. No getting around it. You hope you make the right pick, the giants did, some others have not.

bingo, and those 2 Superbowl wins have more than paid for Eli.

Yep.. these last 3 years are killers but he did help team twice by redoing his deal moving money to the end and now ITS TIME TO PAY THE PIPER> and unknowingly by doing so they have priced themselves out of being able to resign proven stars on this team.

After losing seasons 2013-15, the giants put up 11 wins in 16.. they are on way Back
But for now we can console ourselves with this fact-

                # of Super Bowl victories since 1985:

1-Chicago, St. Louis, Tampa Bay, Indianapolis, New Orleans, Seattle
                2-Washington, Green Bay, Pittsburgh, Baltimore
                3-San Francisco, Dallas, Denver
                4-New York Giants!!!
                5-NE
Let's make it 5 in 2016 so we can be on a LINE NE again!!!

OK people....Again....He did not do anyone any favors.

All he did was agree to switch some salary money ($9MM) to guaranteed bonus money. This allowed the team to spread the cap hit over several years, BUT it also got him ALL that new bonus money up front, instead of waiting for it over the course of the season.
So it cost the team in up front money, but allowed them to spread it out on the cap books.
The effect to Eli was that he got $9MM the day he redid the contract. Thats not doing anyone any favors.
It was a win/win for both parties. Which is fine with me.

But its misleading to suggest that Eli was doing something benevolent for the team and Giants fans. He did what he is supposed to do, do right by himself and his family.

Eli is actually making 13.5 mil this year. Not 20. 20 is his cap hit

The other 6.5 that makes up the 20 mil is dead money.

well now he has the chance to really do himself and the team a favor.. just depends on if he feels he can win without one or both of those WRs

His job is NOT to take a pay cut in order to give the FO more cap room. Its the job of the FO to manage the cap properly.
His job is to work his *** off as our QB. Its NOT to hand back money to the team because they can't manage that cap.

Agreed, he is not giving back any money, nor should he, nor would any player. And yes, both sides benefited from the restructures.

If you're lucky enough to have a franchise QB, then $20M+ per year is fine. It's the most important position by far in the NFL and a franchise QB can keep you in the hunt year-in-and-year out, even when the team as a whole may not be worthy of it.

That $20M+ per year that Eli gets is piece of mind for the Giants and us fans.

Again, just to reitterate to some of you. Eli is not making 20 mil. Hes averaging about 16.

I dont think anyone in the NFL is making 20+mil/year.

Can everyone please stop with the 20million salary hysteria? It doesnt exist. Nobody has ever signed something along the likes of a 7 year 155mil contract. And until someone does, just stop. please.

Didn't Brees just sign a 5 year $100 million deal just last summer, which includes $60M in guaranteed money??
