PFF: Performance Based Value: New York Giants

    https://www.profootballfocus.com/blo...w-york-giants/

    Undervalued
    1. William Beatty, Offensive Tackle
It took a David Diehl injury for Beatty to crack the starting lineup in 2012, and luckily for the Giants it was a move that ended up helping the team. He allowed just three combined sacks/hits, which was second fewest for tackles with at least 200 pass-block snaps. His +10.9 run block rating was third-best among left tackles, which made him a double threat at the position. The Giants did a great job locking up Beatty for the long term just two days ago.
    2012 Cap Hit: $850k
    2012 Performance Based Value: $8.0m
    Value Differential: +$7.2m

    Overvalued
    1. Corey Webster, Cornerback
In 2012, Webster was near the top of the leaderboard in some categories where you want to be at the bottom. His yards per catch allowed of 16.7 was fourth-most, and his eight touchdowns allowed was second for all cornerbacks. It doesnít help that he had previously restructured his contract which led to a larger cap hit in 2012 and 2013.
    2012 Cap Hit: $9.3m
    2012 Performance Based Value: $1.1m
    Value Differential: -$8.3m

    2. Antrel Rolle, Safety
Rolle is another Giants defensive back not earning his ridiculously high salary. He allowed a 72.7% catch rate, which was the fourth worst among safeties who were targeted at least 40 times. His 12 missed tackles donít help him either. Although he at times is an asset in the run game, that isnít nearly enough to make him worth $9 million.
    2012 Cap Hit: $9.0m
    2012 Performance Based Value: $1.1m
    Value Differential: -$8.0m
ya'll see why so many people here want Antrel Rolle gone. He's atrocious in the pass game, and while decent in the run game.. it isn't enough to justify his ridiculously high salary. That money could be used to pay Kenny Phillips and Stevie Brown. Corey Webster, well we've all beaten that dead horse already.

I'll take that with a grain of salt though.. when we drafted him, cc brown was our starting safety.. in other words we needed to get a new safety no matter what.. hindsight is 20/20 and rolle hasn't been the player we are paying for but hasn't been bad either.. and he did fill a hole when our safety situation was abismal..

Thank you!! The guy can't stay on the field any more, and peolpe are acting like he'll play the same as before he got hurt. I'd be willing to bet he doesn't make it out of the preseason again.

Would save 5 mil this year if they released him.

Rolle isn't getting cut this year simply because we don't get much cap relief from cutting him due to the restructures he did. He's been an OK player, but he's also played in multiple roles which has value in itself. After next season will likely be when he gets released, cutting him now only saves about 1mil in cap space with like 8mil in dead space, cutting him next season saves like 8mil in cap space.

It doesn't matter. He's bad in coverage at both positions. He was drafted as a CB, but moved to Safety not because of old age, but lack of good coverage skills. We overpaid for him as a Safety, and he had a poor first season (at Safety). We then moved him to Nickle CB because of injuries and realized why he was moved to Safety to begin with. Then this past season we were reminded of how bad he is (at Safety) again. He has a knack for getting lost in coverage which makes it appear as if he has poor instincts and/or lack of fundamental techniques.

The worst part is that he is seen as a vocal leader of our defense. A leader shouldn't be liability on the field.

Rolle has been JR's worst FA signing.

Playing with heart is one thing, playing with intelligence is another. If you really look at some of websters issues is because rolle was supposed to be over the top at times and he was no where to be found. Either way both is over valued. I would have gotten rid of them before Bradshaw and canty.

I think time will tell. Brown had a lot of balls end up in his hands this year. If that doesn't happen again, I think people will look at his play in a little different light. I remember at least a couple of those interceptions were just horribly over thrown balls. My personal feeling is that WIll Hill's athleticism will win out in the end. Remember Hill was heading towards being a first round pick before his immaturity got him all screwed up. If he has his head screwed on straight, he's going to be a top notch safety.

I have a feeling their plan is to test T2 out at safety this year and if it works Rolle will be easier to get rid of. T2 can be exactly what Rolle has been but at a fraction of the cost, as long as his knees hold up. Can't get rid of Rolle right now though with so many questions.

But I agree, the defense was noticeably better with KP in there so signing him is a must. I would tag him as our #1 DB next to Prince.

In the three safety scheme Phillips, Hill and Brown would be pretty good I think. Hill will need to further work on his pass defense; but 72% completion rate? I think Hill is already better than that, and will get even better with playing time.

this defense would have been that much worse without rolle, are you kidding me? yeah he cant cover,,we know that and the giants know that. unfortunately there is nobody on this team that can play the hybrid LB spot the 3 safety set requires like he does or they would be. rolle restructured his deal that is why his cap hit is so high,,to say he is atrocious is flat out uninformed,,you check his numbers and tell me they were atrocious. as far as KP is concerned, are you kidding me again? yeah let's throw money at a guy with chronic knee problems who may or may not play 10 games the entire season. Stevie? are you kidding me yet again? how about if we see if he does it again this season because as of now he is no more than a one hit wonder. I think the FO has a much better grasp of the situation then anybody in here so thank god it is them running the team and not one of this forums arm chair GM's.
