  • Cruz and a contract offer.

This may be a foolish question, but if a team offers Cruz a contract does that mean he has to sign it or take it? Like, say the Rams offer a deal but Cruz doesn't want to play for them, does their offer alone bind him or the giants into a corner?

Cruz doesn't have to sign anything he doesnt want to, he's still Giants property.

+1 He has the option of doing nothing with any offer sheet(s) he might receive.

No, Cruz can choose to accept an offer or not. If he doesn't like the team or the offer he can turn it down, just like a regular free agent. The difference is that we have the option to match and get compensation if we don't.

word has it that Wes Welker turned down more $$ from Tennessee to sign with Denver. As a free agent they can sign any contract as long as it fits in the general parameters set by the union contract (can't sign for less then veteren minimum, etc)
