  • Giants Acquire Raiders' TE Myers, Two Others

    http://www.nypost.com/p/sports/giant...hSkZ0x3hRARDdK

Excerpt: "In with the new, out with the old?

That could be the Giants plan based on the three free agent acquisitions they made yesterday, agreeing to terms with inside linebacker Dan Connor, receiver Louis Murphy and, according to reports last night, tight end Brandon Myers.
The 27-year-old Myers, a sixth-round pick out of Iowa in 2009 had a breakout last season (his fourth with the Raiders), catching 79 passes for 806 yards and four touchdowns. The Giants were in need of tight end help after Martellus Bennett, who caught 55 passes last season, left them for the Bears as a free agent.

Both Connor, who’s is entering his sixth NFL season, and Murphy, a former Raider, agreed to one-year contracts. Details of Myers deal were unknown.
All the players address position needs where the Giants have existing free agents of their own — Chase Blackburn at inside linebacker, receivers Domenik Hixon and Ramses Barden, and tight end Bennett having already defected.

Connor, a third-round draft choice from Penn State picked by Carolina in 2008, played four years with the Panthers before joining Dallas last year.
The 6-foot-2, 241-pounder has played 56 career games with 27 starts with 222 career tackles (129 solo), a sack, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. Last year with the Cowboys, he played in 14 games, starting eight — three at weakside linebacker and the season’s last five games at middle linebacker. He finished with 56 tackles (32 solo).Connor said the Giants were a perfect fit for him." Read more...

Im really happy with the 3 signings... I think that with Murphy and Myers being thrown to by Eli and having hopefully a heathy Nicks and Cruz back that both murphy and Myers will have huge years being left open. people dont realize that myers had 79 catches which is 1 short of what cruz had i think
Football has been very, very good to us.
After losing seasons 2013-15, the giants put up 11 wins in 16.. they are on way Back
But for now we can console ourselves with this fact-

    # of Super Bowl victories since 1985:

1-Chicago, St. Louis, Tampa Bay, Indianapolis, New Orleans, Seattle
    2-Washington, Green Bay, Pittsburgh, Baltimore
    3-San Francisco, Dallas, Denver
    4-New York Giants!!!
    5-NE
Let's make it 5 in 2016 so we can be on a LINE NE again!!!

Myers should be a solid option for Eli, but people are completely overrating his 79 catches in a extremely pass happy offense where he was really the only good receiver.

I might have mentioned this already but....I see Louis Murphy being a lot like the Devin Thomas signing a couple of years ago. Similar size, height and athleticism and both being around the same on the depth chart.

Hope he can be as productive as DT was on ST's.

I'm not sure you can really overrate 79 receptions, however Brandon Myers isn't the same kind of threat that Bennett could be down the field. Myers will be a really good move-the-chains sort of guy which is something we've needed.

Unfortunately, it also tells me that the JPP of tight ends might be more project than proof.

Connor was a solid signing .. nothing that's going to overly change our defense but should make us slightly more stout against the run. Murphy is depth and a challenge for the #4 spot, nothing too exciting there.
I don't always root for the Cowboys but when I do I wear my pink Jessica Simpson edition Romo jersey. (yes I lost a bet)

That was my initial thought as well. I'm really not expecting too much from him.

Related: I noticed Devin Thomas un-retired and signed with Detroit. He only took a year off. Strange.

well my point is with Cruz, nicks and RR to worry about as well as Wilson being a threat out of the backfield, the to new guys will have a field day. They will only see single coverage all season
