  • Greatest Cinderella Stories In NFL History

    http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap100...in-nfl-history

Excerpt: "March Madness will officially begin on Tuesday (never get used to that) night and will usher in the second-greatest sporting event in the history of mankind. Am I required by law (and the league office) to say second-best? Well, you'll never know for sure. But let's just allow agree March Madness is pretty awesome.

The big news right now (as you pour over your office bracket) is who will be this year's Cinderella who makes a run for the national championship (don't sleep on New Mexico or UNLV). There is always one team in every tournament that captures our nation's heart as they go on to challenge for the title.

The only thing, Cinderella never wins in the NCAA tournament. UNLV was the last time outside of one of the "major" conferences to win the national championship and that was way back in 1990. (Side note: The 1990 Running Rebels were the great college hoops team in history. I won't debate this, either.)
However Cinderella teams win in the NFL all the time. So with that in mind, let's take a look at some of the greatest Cinderella stories in NFL history. And we're going to go with teams that actually won the Super Bowl. So that means the 1979 Los Angeles Rams and 2008 Arizona Cardinals will be omitted from this discussion. Easily two of the bigger Cinderella stories in league history, but won't quite make it on this list."

    2007 New York Giants
The Giants finished 10-6, behind the NFC East-winning Cowboys. So they had to go on the road to win three consecutive games at Tampa Bay, at Dallas and at Green Bay. The Giants were expected to be a mere speed bump for the undefeated Patriots in the Super Bowl. But it didn't work out that way.

Call me biased, but I still think that the '07 Giants were THE Cinderella's of SB champions. Winning 3 games on the road AND defeating the heavily favored 3x in recent memory SB champs (Pats) who were going for the first 19-0 season in NFL history? Nothing tops that.

It certainly was magical. My son and I went to the playoff game in Tampa and you could just tell they were not going to lose that game and the rest is history

The thing is, we knew we had something magical well before the playoffs, and were all but mathematically in by week 14. XLVI was the best day of my life, both due to worse life conditions (in 2007 I was a college student, in 2011 I was unemployed and alone), and due to the "out of nowhere" quality we had...

Both years I just had a feeling of 'this team is not going to lose again this season'.

I dunno... I have to admit I gave up for a while during that 4-game losing streak. I think it was specifically after the saints game, that's as much as I remember though. What really made me feel like we had something special was the JPP field goal block...
