  • Wayne Gallman explains how he's learning from Eli Manning | Giants rookie check-in

Excerpt: "Wayne Gallman has been flying under the radar.

The Giants' rookie running back has been one of the more quiet new players at training camp so far, thanks in large part to a glut of incumbent backs in front of him. Gallman was a fourth-round pick, though, and the Giants likely see him as a contributing player going forward. He just may not have as profound an impact in Year 1.

NJ Advance Media recently caught up with Gallman to discuss his early camp experiences, Eli Manning and Odell Beckham Jr., how Clemson coach Dabo Swinney helped get him ready for the NFL and more:

    MEET GALLMAN:

The Giants drafted Gallman with the No. 140-overall pick (the Walkieleaks pick!) in April's NFL Draft.

Gallman (6-foot, 210 pounds) ran for 1,133 yards and 17 touchdowns in 2016 for national champion Clemson.

    INITIAL REACTIONS TO CAMP:

Gallman said his biggest takeaway from training camp and the NFL so far is that "it's about being a man about your work."

"This is our job now," he said. "We're getting paid, and they expect us to go out each and every day and play our best football."

Gallman came from one of the nation's elite college programs. He said there were definitely similarities between Clemson and the Giants, but it has still been a significant adjustment.

"I think I made a pretty smooth transition because of the way coach Swinney had us work in class and on the field," Gallman said. "It's pretty much the same, but being here is more of a challenge because you have to know your stuff. It's not like college, where you could just gradually learn stuff. They expect you to know it, and to be good at it." Read more...
