  • This is Eli Manning's best shot for 3rd Super Bowl championship

    http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/fo...icle-1.3482835

Excerpt: " Eli Manning wants that third Super Bowl ring as badly as he wanted the first.

This could be Manning’s last best chance to jump from the list of 12 quarterbacks who have won at least two Super Bowls to join the exclusive club of quarterbacks who have won three or more: Tom Brady, who has five rings, Terry Bradshaw and Joe Montana, who have four, and Troy Aikman, who has three.

Jerry Reese has built this team to win now, which is the only thing he could do with a 36-year-old quarterback. There’s no way to predict when Manning’s skills will erode or if he will suffer a bad injury. The Giants are going for it now.

“Every year you assume it could be your last chance, whether it’s to play or win a championship,” Manning told the Daily News. “You don’t know how it’s going to go year-to-year, week-to-week in this league. You want to go out there and take advantage of the opportunities that you get.”

The Giants face the Cowboys on Sunday night in their most anticipated season opener since 1986, when they were among the favorites to get to the Super Bowl, just as they are in 2017.

Manning loved the first ring he earned after the 2007 season because it was the first. The second one four years later reminded him how great the first one felt. Now he’s six years removed from his last championship and desperately wants to get up on the podium at least one more time.

“I don’t think it’s something that you get one and the desire goes away,” he said. “It’s probably the other way around. Once you get a taste of it, you want it again.”

Was the second as good as the first?" Read more...

Wonder if he would hang it up this yr if he does win a 3rd? Go out a champion like Peyton did.

If the Line can be slightly better . If he has time to get the ball out. This could be a scary Offense for opposing DCs to game plan for. IMO: It could be the best all around team he has had, we'll know soon enough.

Good question, but then again he might think 3 rings isn't enough

We've seen this type of anticipation before.I remember how we started the year after the 2nd ring, when Plax shot hisself. We had a great team going then, with a high probability to repeat. Then all the wind was knocked right out of us.Imma be realistic,if we can do VERY well against THIS stronger NFC east division,we can do well altogether.Go Big Blue.

Well 3 rings might not be enough to those that thinks he just a mediocre qb and rode along for the ride just like big bro Peyton did

Eli would not retire with a third ring. Peyton had a neck injury. if, not for that Peyton may still be playing. Then you have Brady,Brees, Rivers and Ben still playing. Only a major injury will retire anyone of these QB'S.

Yea I was going to say his best shot would of been if he had even a good O Line
Football has been very, very good to us.
After losing seasons 2013-15, the giants put up 11 wins in 16.. they are on way Back
But for now we can console ourselves with this fact-

                    # of Super Bowl victories since 1985:

1-Chicago, St. Louis, Tampa Bay, Indianapolis, New Orleans, Seattle
                    2-Washington, Green Bay, Pittsburgh, Baltimore
                    3-San Francisco, Dallas, Denver
                    4-New York Giants!!!
                    5-NE
Let's make it 5 in 2016 so we can be on a LINE NE again!!!

I actually wonder if he privately thinks about Farve's mark for consecutive games. That would take 6+ seasons. You never know.

I would settle for good enough. They played ok against the Jets. Lets hope that confidence and play carries into the season.

I really dont get this way of looking at things. This is how people obsessed in 2008 when the team was very good. Ultimately you have to win games, every year is new and they have proved nothing at this point in time. Lets just enjoy the ride instead of obsessing about "windows of opportunity" or our QB's age/career stats/legacy. He is a very good player and has always done his best. It isn't all up to him.

I think it also had a lot to do with 9 tds and 17 ints that year. Why would he come back, he got a ring with a garbage year, especially to his standards. See ya
