  • wildcard ?

The NFC standings right now, not counting the division leaders, no team is better than 3-2 (except the Packers, who are 4-2, but lost their QB-superman). So we're 3 games back in the lost column, with 10 or 11 games to go, and there are, of course, 2 wildcard slots. If we play our butts off, we could actually be "in the hunt" with several games remaining. I don't know if we will, but I think we are good enough to make a run at it. Alrick Rosas is a great young kicker (separate but related point).

Excerpt: "Now that the Giants finally have victory No. 1, all they need to do is keep winning.

No NFL team has ever started 0-5 and made the playoffs. Thatís not just a big hole to climb out ó itís an earthquake-sized crater.

But there has to be a first time for everything.

The Giants locker room was on the verge of imploding last week, but can now bond and rally around a common goal after their huge upset in Denver on Sunday night: Letís make history together.

    Why not?

First, some reality. The NFC East title is out of the question.

The Eagles are 5-1. The Giants are 1-5. Washington or Dallas may catch the Eagles, but the Giants are four games back with 10 games left and they already lost in Philadelphia.

So, letís concentrate on the wild card. Remember, there are two of them.

The Packers are likely without Aaron Rodgers, who broke his collarbone, for the rest of the season. Brett Hundley is now the QB unless the Packers attempt to talk Wisconsin native Tony Romo out of the television booth. The Vikings are starting Case Keenum. Ryan Fitzpatrick will be starting in Tampa if Jameis Winstonís shoulder does not respond quickly. Washington barely beat the 49ers by two points at home.

We're 2. Games back in the wildcard with 10 to play. Let's make more history. Another chapter in eli's fairytale career.

well, until we're mathematically eliminated, there is hope, but the numbers really aren't adding up...

We'll need to win at least 8 of the last 10 to have much of a chance. That is a really tall order. There is a reason no 0 - 5 team has made it yet, and only one or two teams have made it with any 5 game losing streak. Its a huge hole to dig out of, but until we're mathematically eliminated there is hope.

76' Steelers started 1-4, finished 10-4 and made it all the way to the AFCCG vs Oak before they got beat. Course the steel curtain was ungodly that yr holding teams to 9.9 ppg that yr. In their last 9 regular season games that yr, they held opponents to 27 combined pts and pitched 5 shutouts! That's 3 ppg that their D allowed in the final 9 games.

Giants D may have to try and play somewhat at that level to help this O win 9 more times. But I won't hold my breath on it.

At 1 and 5 it's way to soon to think about the wildcard. Lets see if this team can sniff out .500 first?

As for the article, the eagles started 5-0 last year and ended up last place in the division. This year could likely turn out to be like the few prior to 2016 with everyone jockeying to lose the division.

I posted this on another thread but the scenario makes more sense here.

They need to win Sunday vs Seattle. If they do, then over the bye week, everyone will look at LA Rams and 49ers as winnable games. At 4-5, they probably lose to the Chiefs but if they somehow win the next two after that loss, well, then they are 6-6 and it's game on. It's an extreme long shot but possible in a season where it looks like 9-7 can get you in.

Cannot make the playoffs at wild card. We are 0-2 in the division, we are 0-4 in the conference. These are the tie breakers conference and division records. Must win the division and that just doesn't look realistic.

Exactly. Eli and the O gave them two late leads Against the Eagles both of which they blew. He gave them another late lead Against TB and they coughed that up. And gave them a 4th quarter lead with SD which they blew. Everyone conveniently points to the O Line but if not for the D they'd be 4-2 right now

Difference from Last year?? They still were not scoring a lot but we're winning all these close games at the end with the D holding the other teams off. This year not so much
Football has been very, very good to us.
After losing seasons 2013-15, the giants put up 11 wins in 16.. they are on way Back
But for now we can console ourselves with this fact-

                        # of Super Bowl victories since 1985:

1-Chicago, St. Louis, Tampa Bay, Indianapolis, New Orleans, Seattle
                        2-Washington, Green Bay, Pittsburgh, Baltimore
                        3-San Francisco, Dallas, Denver
                        4-New York Giants!!!
                        5-NE
Let's make it 5 in 2016 so we can be on a LINE NE again!!!

With this receiving core we don't stand a chance of winning but a few games this season. Defenses will stack the box against our run.

It is actual unfortunately that we started so poorly because the NFC is WIDE OPEN! But one game at a time, next is the Seahawks which won't be easy. They still have a great Defense! If we can't run the ball then we will struggle!
