  • Harry Carson Story

I was at the grocery store today wearing my Giants bowling shirt, when a guy walks up to me and says, "Do you know Harry Carson?"
I said,"Yeah of course I know him." H e said he went Wofford College and played against Harry Carson at South Carolina State his senior year. He said they had the best defense he ever saw, and Harry Carson was the best person on that defense. They gave up 19 points in 11 games. He said Carson and the boys only let 4 drives past the 50 yard line for the entire season. Carson played defensive end at South Carolina State.

He said his name was Achmad. He was pissed SC State never recruited him, because he was faster and stronger than Harry Carson. Pretty awesome story, so I thought I share it.
Because of all of the effort and examination being poured into these predictions, the draft is a robust market that, in the aggregate, does a good job of sorting prospects from top to bottom.1 Yet despite so many people trying to “beat the market,” no single actor can do it consistently. Abnormal returns are likely due to luck, not skill. But that hasn’t stopped NFL executives from behaving with the confidence of traders.

Great story. Harry Carson was the quintessential Giant. Too bad we didn't pick up Achmad as well.
