  • Giants' Mathias Kiwanuka On Move Back To DE: I'm Ready To Do The Job

    http://www.giants101.com/2013/07/11/...to-do-the-job/

Excerpt: "When the New York Giants drafted Mathias Kiwanuka back in the first round of the 2006 NFL Draft, he was supposed to be a part of their ferocious pass rush, as he was coming in a top pass rusher out of Boston College.

Now in his eighth season with the team, Kiwanuka has not only had to play at defensive end, but because of injuries and lack of depth at the position, played quite a bit at outside linebacker, and for the most part, has done well. But in 2013, due to Osi Umenyiora departing as a free agent to the Atlanta Falcons and Jason Pierre-Paul recovering from back surgery, the Giants had to shift players around in the summer to accommodate, and Kiwanuka is moving back to his natural position of defensive end this season.

    In an interview with Giants.com
just after the team completed OTA's last month, Kiwanuka said he was very excited to return to the defensive end spot instead of playing at outside linebacker.

"I am very excited about the move back, it's my natural position and I'm ready to go and do the job."

Back in April, the Giants were prepared for the loss of Umenyiora in free agency as they drafted Texas A&M defensive end Damontre Moore in the third round of the 2013 NFL Draft, which many consider to be a steal of a pick considering Moore was slated to be a late first-round pick, but with JPP's back needing surgery to repair a herniated disc, the Giants are relying on the veteran to step in and do the job this summer. Back in 2008, the Giants were in a similar situation when they counted on Kiwanuka to be a starter when Umenyiora went down in the preseason with a season-ending knee injury, plus the retirement of Michael Strahan." theres a lot of interesting questions regarding this team that we'll soon find out the answers. one of the intriguing ones imo is how kiwi does at DE.

its his natural position, and he was a highly sought talent coming out of college.

He's also been the perfect teammate imo. never complains about what honestly has been a rough go for him in terms of how hes been handled. guy just does his job, does it well, does it quietly. it'd be justice imo if he has this 15 sack season.

It has to help to know where he's going to play. Last season he played more DE than LB so here's hoping he plays lights out. I'm more worried about Tuck to be honest.

me too, and thats kinda sad imho. im hopeful Tuck can look more like he did 2008-2010 than he has recently.

and with kiwi, one of the setbacks to moving him around, is that he's going back to DE and prob the level of play before he switched. thats not a bad thing, but all the experience he has gathered as a LB isn't going to translate into his play as a DE. it/d be awesome, and prob unlikely, for kiwi to play like he never switched...

I think Tuck's problems are psychological and that can be overcome

Tuck might comeback with a good season this year. With Osi gone, he can concentrate on football

I'm not so sure... he's had several years and aside from one six-game run in 2011, he hasn't been able to resolve it...

I'm Commander Shepard, and this is my favorite team in the NFL.
