  • Giants' Safety Antrel Rolle: "There's No Time For Letdowns"

    http://www.giants101.com/2013/07/23/...-for-letdowns/

Excerpt: "New York Giants safety Antrel Rolle recently sat down with Giants.com for an interview to discuss the team's offseason and stiff competition it will face from the NFC East during the upcoming season. Amongst many interesting tidbits, Rolle stressed that "there's no time for letdowns" in regards to losing focus and not playing well against some of the best quarterbacks in the NFC.

It's goes without saying that Rolle has an important role (no pun intended) on the team this season. The secondary wasn't great last season and was a major contributor to the second-worst defense in the NFL. He'll be instrumental in trying to prevent the likes of Robert Griffin III, Tony Romo and Michael Vick tear up the Giants' defense like they have in the past.

The Giants will face the likes of the Washington Redskins, Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles six times next season and, with the glaring improvements made by each of the aforementioned teams, the Giants will need to step up in all facets of the game to end up as the top team in the NFC East. If the team suffers from any of the "letdowns" that Rolle was alluding to, then it could prove extremely difficult to accomplish.

Rolle's Giants have been susceptible to letdowns recently, and last season was no exception. Despite going 1-1 against each of their division foes, the Giants easily could have finished 6-0. Each loss was within a touchdown, while two losses came within two points or less. These losses certainly qualify as letdowns, especially when considering the Giants finished the season 9-7. Even two more wins would have propelled them into the playoffs.

Rolle's job this season will be to prepare his team for battling against being let down. Despite being the underdog in each of their past two Super Bowl victories, the Giants and their fanbase have certainly been let down over the past several seasons. They have failed to reach the playoffs in three of the last four years, and their defense has gone from top notch to deplorable. Rolle will be in charge of prepping the secondary to withstand the skills of Griffin, Romo and Vick." Read more...

If they give 100% each game then thats allwe can ask as fans. If that isnt good enough so be it. But if they underperform and lack fire then we can all get pissed.

You mean like last year? Some days it just looked like certain players just did NOT want to be on the field.

Giants are going to be fine this year. We have depth on the d-line and the secondary. We won't be a great defense but we will be better then last year.
                  sigpicShould the Giants fire Gilbride....

Glad posters are coming around to see that last year some guys just laid down (not saying you were ever saying otherwise), I just remember being crucified for saying this same exact thing.

Interesting observation. I wonder if the coaching staff saw and responded to that. Oh wait... The Head Honcho told us he had no idea what the problem was. Some of us knew that the problem was a combo of bad coaching, bad execution and lack of interest. Well, now the most of the players have changed, the only constant is the coaching staff and the bad LB core. Let's wait and see what happens before we pass judgment again. Right now it is just talk, speculation and no substance. Everyone, from coaches to players to the FO, is trying to say the right things and such. I do not know about you, but I am waiting for their actions to speak. The season opener is just around the corner and soon we will have our answers.

I'm fine with going down fighting... The first philly game last year, the packers and niners games in regular season 2011 come to mind. It's the games where they don't want to play that bother me. I actually stopped watching the atlanta game halfway through the 2nd quarter, the first time I have done such a thing in years, since at least 2009. I can give a pass to the cincy game sure due to sandy, but there was no excuse for three way they played vs atlanta and baltimore...

I'm Commander Shepard, and this is my favorite team in the NFL.

laying down and just not putting 100% effort is a bit different IMO. But I hear you. Just play like its your last play. Go all out.
