It's been discussed here many times. It's basically impossible to cut him and no one is going to trade for him with that contract. The only hope is that he is re-energized with a new regime. I don't think it's out of the question that he can't bounce back. It's not easy to play on a team like the Giants last year. I think many fans are too hard on players on horrible teams. It's only human nature to be a little de-motivated.

                  Not added to the list

Eli has already been designated as the starting QB. Not getting cut.

Ereck Flowers is a 100% dollar for dollar cap hit. Not getting cut.

Eli Apple is a risk to cut . The Giants could claim his contract was voided at the time of his suspension. Would it pass through arbitration? I don't think so . He did nothing that bad as to void the contract.
Would be $8,953,644 cap hit. Not getting cut.

There are others that can free up space. The too ludicrous to cut list

                  Damon Harrison
                  Landon Collins
                  Sterling Shepard

Dwayne Harris Adds 2.5 in cap space
Brad Wing adds 1 million in cap space

Janoris Jenkins KEEP our Best Corner
DRC KEEP to versatile to cut
Olivier Vernon KEEP too expensive to cut. Giving up 12 million.
                  Brandon Marshall CUT
John Jerry KEEP Can't get as good for his price
                  Dwayne Harris CUT
Brad Wing CUT can get a comparable punter for less.

                  I freed up a whopping 8.7 million = A starting O-linemen.
Janoris Jenkins - Keep. We have a solid DB group, overall. Keep them intact.
DRC - Keep. He's a true Giant, in my opinion. Does what's asked of him without complaining. Has excelled on the outside, and against the slot. This year I see him making an impact at FS. Tie in the fact our CB's are always dinged up, he adds much needed depth/versatility.
Olivier Vernon - Keep. Solid player all around. It'd be dumb to cut him.
Brandon Marshall - Cut. As much as I loved the signing originally, it became puzzling once we drafted Engram. Injuries seem to be taking a toll.
John Jerry - Cut. He's barely average at pass protection, and he sucks in run blocking. That means he's average at 50% of his job.....he's a waste of money.
Dwayne Harris - I've never been a fan of overpaying for a ST specialist. With the few exceptions, and one could argue Harris has been just that, I think you can find a solid KR/PR most off-seasons.
Brad Wing - I don't keep up with punters, really, so........whatever.
                  NFL Draft (Realistic Hope):

                  Rd 1
                  Garrett Bolles - OT
                  David Njoku - TE
                  Zach Cunningham - OLB

Out of everyone mentioned I would cut Harris and Wing. And I'd offer Harris a renegotiated contract. So really only Wing is the guy I'd cut. Guess I would be in the minority around here.

I believe Sheppard and Collins are still on rookie contracts.

All the rest of them don't have similarly priced replacements available. Strictly FA speaking, you can't replace Jerry and Harris for $2.5M (amount of cap space available when they're cut).

What would be sweet is if we drafted replacements now so when those contracts expire we have more talented replacements at less of a cap hit.

you know, like how successful NFL franchises are run these days......like that.
Jerry sure, but Harris? Of course you can replace him cheaply. Just give another guy a shot at returning kicks/punts. Harris hasn't been a real difference maker in the return game for at least a couple years now anyway. If you look at his return stats last year and this year they're pedestrian at best.

I'm pretty sure Harris was the worst rated punt returner in 2016 lol

Even with the Cuts laid out in My original post gain 30 million in cap space (Some are just not feasible) As it stands the Giants have 3.2 million in cap space. (The 51 + draft pool.) Let say we have 30 million with the cuts I stated( unrealistic) . So we have 33 in cap space we sign Norwell for 11 that leaves 22. 6 for a buffer in case we need to sign players due to injuries . The leaves 16 million This is with cutting Vernon and Jenkins . You can not fill the rest of the roster for that price.
Without some strategic contract negations ( back loaded) along with very good existing contract restructures. I do not see how we can sign Norwell and fill the roster with need quality players.

                          Thoughts.

The Sportrac link says we're at $13M with top 51 - with Ogletree's $10M cap hit accounted for

cut Bmarsh and Harris - save ~$7.5mill.
prorate Ogletree signing bonus over the rest of contract - save ~ $6M

plus that $13M already, we're looking at $26.5M in cap room entering the new year.

Just because signing Norwell to a $11-13M annual contract doesnt mean first year will be that, it's possible he gets idk $7M this year.

If this happens looking at roughly $19M left after Norwell added.

Probably going to need to rework a contract or two too to free up some space. The rest of the signings i wouldnt expect to be big splashes, but i think we're fine currently.
