  • Who will be Giants' 2018 breakout star? Ranking Sterling Shepard, Lorenzo Carter, more

    http://www.nj.com/giants/index.ssf/2...rt_river_index

Excerpt: "There is plenty of star power on a rather top-heavy Giants roster, including Odell Beckham Jr., rookie Saquon Barkley, Eli Manning, Landon Collins, Damon Harrison, Olivier Vernon, and others, but the stage seems set in 2018 for several players to breakout and become stars in their own right.

Here's a look at some of the top candidates to have a breakout season for the Giants this upcoming season:

    6. WR - Roger Lewis

2017 Stats: 36 receptions for 416 yards and 2 touchdowns

Career Stats: 43 catches for 513 yards and 4 touchdowns.

No team passed the ball in 2017 more than the Giants' 607 attempts, and that number should decrease with a more balanced attack featuring rookie running back Saquon Barkley.

However, there are going to be receptions to be had, particularly if the Giants look to stretch the field on the outside. If Roger Lewis plays his way into meaningful snaps as an outside receiver, or if he wins that starting job opposite Odell Beckham Jr., look for a dramatic uptick in production from last year's 36 catches for 416 yards and two touchdowns.

    5. S - Andrew Adams

    2017 Stats: 34 tackles

Career Stats: 80 tackles, 1 interception

The position battle for the starting safety job alongside Landon Collins is going to be one of the most heated throughout minicamp and during training camp later this summer.

If Adams wins out and regains the starting job he occupied for much of the 2016 season, his coverage skills give him a chance to bring some stability to a secondary that was very much lacking it last season.

In his lone season as a starter, Adams had 46 tackles and one interception, and is a solid complement to Collins who can contribute both as a center fielder in coverage as well as a box-safety against the run or rushing the quarterback.

    4. WR - Cody Latimer

2017 Stats: 19 catches for 287 yards and 2 touchdowns

Career Stats: 35 catches for 445 yards, 3 touchdowns

In Beckham's absence, Cody Latimer has taken a bulk of the reps at outside receiver during OTAs this spring, and has made the most of them.

Standing 6-foot-3 and 215 pounds, Latimer has the ideal frame to thrive on the outside, particularly in the red zone. Additionally, the significant practice workload seems to have helped build some chemistry with quarterback Eli Manning.

If the Giants' plan is to leave Sterling Shepard in the slot, Latimer could have an inside track on winning that job if he continues to perform at a high level during this minicamp and into the summer.

Should Latimer hold down the job, this could be a breakout season that far exceeds even his career totals of 35 catches for 445 yards and three touchdowns since 2014." Read more...

I can't wait to see who wins the FS battle. I think Thompson was handed the job because of his draft position. I don't feel that he ever earned it.

Cody Latimer if he makes it will, he will have a break out season. If the oline can block our teams going to put up a lot of points this year.

Teams won't be able to drop everyone in coverage like they did the last few years, our wrs will have a ton of space to operate in.
