  • Cullen Jenkins Could Be Giants' Fill In At DE For Jason Pierre-Paul

    http://www.nj.com/giants/index.ssf/2...erre-paul.html

Excerpt: "If defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul is unable to play Sunday against Green Bay, the Giants appear to be turning to another position to fill some of the void.

Defensive tackle Cullen Jenkins will slide outside if JPP is sidelined by a shoulder injury, in part to defend Green Bay’s power running game headlined by the physical Eddie Lacy. Jenkins played a handful of snaps on running downs as a defensive end Sunday in the victory over the Raiders. He also played end early in his career with the Packers.

Veteran Mathias Kiwanuka would likely receive a majority of the snaps for the Giants in Pierre-Paul’s place. Jenkins and rookie Damontre Moore would also be in the defensive end rotation, with Jenkins being used as the primary option on running downs.

“Cullen in the run and Damontre in the pass game,” defensive coordinator Perry Fewell said.

Jenkins has played on the outside before. He began his career as a 4-3 defensive end with the Packers, before becoming more of an interior lineman when they switched to a 3-4 defensive formation in 2009.

The Giants used Jenkins often at defensive end during training camp. He was a contingency plan for Pierre-Paul coming off back surgery. He’s sporadically taken snaps at end during practice, before seeing action at the position in a game for the first time this season against the Raiders.

He admitted it’s not an easy transition.

“When you’re inside, you have to take shorter steps. Everything happens so much faster. Where at end, you have a little more time to read on the run,” Jenkins said. “You have to be covering ground more at the end. You have to be able to switch your mindset over pretty fast to whatever position you’re in.” Read more...

I noticed Jenkins on the outside at least once against the Raiders. I am wondering if that was while JPP was getting checked out in the locker room after hurting his shoulder?

Jesus Christmas, I recommended this from Day 1 when it was clear the JPP's back was still ****ed up.

        Start DaMonster!!... Problem solved
Football has been very, very good to us.
After losing seasons 2013-15, the giants put up 11 wins in 16.. they are on way Back
But for now we can console ourselves with this fact-

        # of Super Bowl victories since 1985:

1-Chicago, St. Louis, Tampa Bay, Indianapolis, New Orleans, Seattle
        2-Washington, Green Bay, Pittsburgh, Baltimore
        3-San Francisco, Dallas, Denver
        4-New York Giants!!!
        5-NE
Let's make it 5 in 2016 so we can be on a LINE NE again!!!

Its all fine and dandy but no matter how PF wants to picture it its not good at all not having your best DE on the field. That been said its going to be a major blow to the D if JPP's injury lingers and miss more that one game .

He has no desire to play any rookies really... Bradshaw didn't get any actual true chances until about week 14 or so (and promptly exploded week 15 against the bills)

The rookie redshirt program is honestly not a good idea in today's league, with how long careers last nowadays and free agency making getting production out of rookie deals crucial.

With their mobile QB on the sidelines and a solid running attack, this is not a bad way to give JPP a needed break!

They had Jenkins at the 5, Patterson at the 3. Rivers standing up on the line at the 7. They can even put Moore in place of Rivers in the under.

This move clearly tells me that Moore must not be doing well against the run in practice. As Fewell says Moore will play passing downs. He must not be ready for the full time job.

If they play Jenkins at DE, then Hankins will get more experience at DT. Rookies will see the field either way.

Yes! I dont know if it's because of TC's old school mentality or what. It bothers me. The dude shows promise, i mean he has blocked two punts... and is athletic
