    Manningham is still being missed

I think people keep forgetting how key Manningham was for this team, especially stretching the field. Nicks and Cruz are posession wrs and people keep overlooking that. I think Manningham is still being missed and his ability to go vertical and open up the short - medium routes.

The thing that I most remember other than his SB catch is he was a horrible route runner, who often got too close to the sideline and couldn't come down in bounds.
Well I wouldn't go that far. He had a td in the Atlanta, GB, and 9ers game..all in addition to the forever famous superbowl catch. His 2011 playoff contribution IS legend and the reason he got paid.

With that said though Randle has done a fine job at filling his spot, so I don't understand why MM is missed for the role he played here.

It's not so much about the quality of one receiver, it's more how many quality receivers you can play at once. With Nicks and Cruz playing at 100%, we had a great passing game. Without (a good) Nicks, we are struggling. And whether we had Randle or Mario as our WR3, if the first 2 excel, the passing game will also.

I think Randle and Mario are similar quality - still basically WR3s right now. Not clear what is going on with Nicks.

Bad post. MM played 42 games 2009-2011.

I think the poor pass blocking hurts our air attack more than anything else.

Manningham has played 2 games for SF this year, right about the same amount he played as a Giant, him and Nicks can't stay healthy.

He was okay when stepping in for Nicks. 436 yards and 4 TDs over the six games that he missed

amazing that it takes years to learn an offense... maybe it's time to change/simplify the offense a little? maybe?
    He hasn't learned it yet?

I would have preferred they had kept Hixon. Better route runner BY FAR, good hands. Effective inside or outside

Nicks' woes, or the #1 WR position are the issue here and Manningham never had that role.
Absolutely, if Nicks played like he did a few years ago there would be no WR issues.

"Double Nicks and Cruz, make Manningham beat us" (Belichick in super bowl).

    MM came thru.
No doubt Manningham is missed but there is a salary cap and unfortunately championship teams lose players to other teams that will overpay for a position of need.
