here's a crazy statistic for you....

in the past 10 seasons, the nfc has been represented by 10 different teams in the super bowl, while the afc has been represented by only 3. really gives you an appreciation for the competitive balance in the NFC. i've always thought it was the superior conference.

going by this trend, you would think it should be san francisco's turn this year. i think ten years is long enough for the this trend though, so lets hope it comes to an end on sunday.

and yes i am aware that this is a meaningless stat that has no impact on the game, but i thought it was interesting.

That is interesting.....so what you're saying is......if the Giants make the big one TECHNICALLY they'll have the right to say they've been the most successful NFC team over the past decade......2 SB appearances in 10 years will give them that right......no?

i would say you would be correct. another note, the season before this trend began, it was giants and ravens in the super bowl....so there ya go.

        It's actually 4 afc teams:

        New england
        Pittsburgh
        Indianapolis
        Oakland

In the last 10 years. Still a very interesting stat

I get you. But it would actually be 2SB appearances in only 4 years for us
Football has been very, very good to us.
After losing seasons 2013-15, the giants put up 11 wins in 16.. they are on way Back
But for now we can console ourselves with this fact-

          # of Super Bowl victories since 1985:

1-Chicago, St. Louis, Tampa Bay, Indianapolis, New Orleans, Seattle
          2-Washington, Green Bay, Pittsburgh, Baltimore
          3-San Francisco, Dallas, Denver
          4-New York Giants!!!
          5-NE
Let's make it 5 in 2016 so we can be on a LINE NE again!!!

Re: Lets Hope This Little Playoff Trend Comes To An End

It an inaccurate statistic. Its been 4 for the AFC.

            '10 - Steelers
            '09 - Colts
            '08 - Steelers
            '07 - Patriots
            '06 - Colts
            '05 - Steelers
            '04 - Patriots
            '03 - Patriots

Thats only 8 years and in '02 the Raiders were in the Super bowl. The Pats were in it in '01 making it 4 over the last decade.

Re: Lets Hope This Little Playoff Trend Comes To An End

i totally forgot about oakland. they clearly didn't belong on the field with tampa bay in that game so maybe that's why.

it just blows my mind that in a 16 team conference, 10 of them have been in the super bowl in the past 10 years. pretty incredible.

If they get there this year, they would be able to say that in 12 seasons they have been to the Super Bowl 3 times and only Green Bay (GB's been to 3 in 16 seasons)is even close to that since Dallas' early-mid 90's run! We are in a golden era for the Giants right now fellas, enjoy it.
