Excerpt: "The Giants report for the start of their offseason program on Tuesday. This is the "voluntary" portion of the offseason, although it is typically frowned upon for players to skip these workouts. Many players have workout bonuses in their contracts that are awarded if they participate in a designated percentage of the workouts.

The collective bargaining agreement has strict rules for the nine-week voluntary offseason program.

"Voluntary offseason workout programs are intended to provide training, teaching and physical conditioning for players," according to the CBA. "The intensity and tempo of drills should be at a level conducive to learning, with player safety as the highest priority, and not at a level where one player is in a physical contest with another player."

Here's a look at the rules governing offseason workouts:

*No more than four hours per day

*Players not on the field more than 90 minutes per day

*No more than four workouts per week

    *No workouts on weekends

    *No contact allowed

*Players receive $215 per day on workout days

There are three phases to the official nine-week offseason program:

*Phase 1: The first two weeks are limited to strength training and rehab. Only strength and conditioning coaches are allowed on the field; other coaches aren't allowed to participate in or observe activities. Football aren't allowed to be used, except for quarterbacks throwing to uncovered receivers, kicking and punting. Helmets can't be worn." Read more...

$215 for no more than 4 hours of voluntary workout. Nice! They should apply that to team staff as well.
