  • How Giants' kicking competition will work this summer

    http://www.nj.com/giants/index.ssf/2...rt_river_index

Excerpt: "The Giants' largely-unknown placekicking hopeful will face plenty of pressure this summer, both internally and externally.

This is the plan for Aldrick Rosas, who has become one of the more intriguing players around the team after an impressive offseason program.

Rosas, 22, is expected at this point to be the only kicker on the roster when training camp begins. The Giants will then do everything they can to have the one-time undrafted free agent out of tiny Southern Oregon confirm he is up for the job.

The Giants will likely give him every kick in each preseason game, as well as gin up some simulated practice scenarios and games to throw him into the fire. But at the same time, they'll be keeping close tabs on Rosas' real competition, which resides in the other 31 camps around the league.

Much has been made of the Giants' decision to bypass signing a veteran free agent. Part of it is Rosas' emergence this spring. Part of it is the reality, as special teams coordinator Tom Quinn has said on several occasions, there are only so many kicks a player can get in today's watered-down camps and splitting them creates a lack of suitable workload. Part of it is also there's really no reason for the Giants to have a veteran kicker in camp. If they need one, they'll just go get one when they do." Read more...

This is the issue this team has that nobody is talking about.

You have 60 page threads on this board moaning because Beckham missed OTAs. Wait until we miss a 36 yarder in a huge spot in January.

One thing we know. He can definitely kickoff into and out of the end zone. That there is a plus factor.

Funny that Beckham's name comes up in this thread...

Cause he might be the best kicker on our roster lol

From what I've seen of this kid, we have our kicker and he is an upgrade.

You also mean missing FGs in every close game during the regular season since the offense can't score much or put away games early.

I am not saying he is not going to be good kicker. I want all our players to excel. . He has not had one NFL snap . How is he an upgrade when so much has yet to be known? No one knows how he will react in the NFL with the game on the line . Good prospect definitely. Upgrade?
