    The Send Off...................Your Shockey Memory

Hey look the guys gone, well wishes (not too well) and all that, and theres alot of different feeling and emotions on this board about this, whats the memory or memories that stuck out to you most about shockey, it doesnt have to be on the field........

For me his rookie year will stand out for me the most.  just the toughness this guy had, we seemed like a pretty passive team at the time and i was proud that guy was there causin havoc, not fitting the mold.  jawin, talkin smack and draggin people down the field, i almost #$@% on myself when i first saw that stuff.   i had never been that excited for a play in a long time.  the manning-tyree play i was in so much disbelief, i thought they were gonna overturn it, or somehow turn it the patriots way, i stayed quiet (didnt want to jinx it).

only thing i didnt like bout shox was that even from the first training camp it seemed like it was all about him, and thats fine, but obviously you see that it up until now it pretty much has always been about him. imo

Re: The Send Off...................Your Shockey Memory

    Two come to mind:

    1. When we beat the Eagles in the last game of 2002 to get into the playoffs, Shockey out-playing Dawkins for the TD and then rubbing in his face afterwards.

    2. Eagles playoff game, Shockey's Bavaro-esque play without the helmet to get the first down.

Though I pretty much hate the guy now, I'll never forget when he was reporting to camp, and the section he normaly parked in was closed off, so the crazy sob jumps the curb, and parks on the lawn. LOL That was great.

Re: The Send Off...................Your Shockey Memory

IMHO.............Shockey's fierceness on the field is what every football player should be, and the "helmetless" play epitomises that better than any play I can think of.  He sacrificed his body because he wanted to win so badly.

The fact is his fierce attitude spilled over to his off field persona and it rubbed some of you the wrong way. I will never understand why you would care about a football player not being politically correct.  I like my football players mean.

Oh well, he didn't want to be here so it was time for him to go.  I am a Giants fan and I will root against him when/if we're ever up against him.

Good luck Shock and I hope you find the happiness you couldn't find here.

#2 is the one I remember best and I think showed how he played best, even helmetless he fought for yards.

    Bye, bye Shockey

Re: The Send Off...................Your Shockey Memory

I liked his very first game in the hall of fame game. Streaking down the sidelines and bowling over the DB near the goalline. It was like he was shot out of a cannon.
After Super Bowl 42, a part of me will be at peace forever.

Re: The Send Off...................Your Shockey Memory

I'll never forget his first year. Hall of Fame Preseason Game, 2002, he steamrolls Texans Safety Kevin Williams renroute to a 50 yard gain along the sideline. You could just tell that this guy had it. He had that fire.

I'm glad he's gone and all, but it's going to be hard to just up and forget about another Giant great. (ex, Tiki Barber) But this is the way he chooses to run his course then so be it.

What are we going to do with our Shockey jerseys???

Re: The Send Off...................Your Shockey Memory

My favorite comes from the playoff game at Philly in 2006.  It's not the helmet-less play, though that play was amazing.

It was late in the fourth quarter, right before the last drive the Giants had the ball for the game.  Fox had just come back from commercial and they showed a clip that they captured during the TV timeout.  It was Shockey running up and down the Giants' sideline high fiving nearly everyone and pumping every single person up (offense and defense alike).  You could see the fire in his eyes and it seemed like it was spreading to each person (though as we all know, the defense didn't quite respond very well at the end of the game...).  It turned out to be Tiki's last game -- it really seemed like Shockey was doing his part to try to pick up the slack Tiki was going to leave in terms of leadership.  It was awesome to see.  Anyone remember that?

Re: The Send Off...................Your Shockey Memory

the 2 things that stand out the most to me, are the play he lost his hemlet and kept pushing v/s those birds. and the fact that even if he only caught the ball for a 2 yd gain to make it 3rd and 7 or whatever, he would act as if he just single handedly won the game!
