Big Ben with rare life-threatening rib injury

We told you earlier Wednesday that Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger would sit out this week's game against the Baltimore Ravens, in part because of his previously undisclosed rib injury.

Roethlisberger says his rib is partially dislocated and he has no timetable to return. The rib problem actually is more severe than his shoulder injury. How rare is the injury? The last time his doctor heard of it was in 1998 with a rugby player.

Christ, it's similar to the injury Danny Amendola suffered earlier in the year. Not good. Hopefully he has a safe recovery.

I was listening to Michael Kay today and it was mentioned that his rib injury can be likened to going airborne on an ATV going 30 mph and having it fall on you and pin your chest. That sounds excruciating... My heart goes out to him and his family.
