Do kickers and punters belong in the Hall of Fame?
Came across this interesting article about kickers and punters being inducted into the Hall of Fame. I never really gave it much thought, but there is a few players worth talking about. Adam Vinatieri was one mentioned in this article, and how Bill Belichick feels that Vinatieri earned his spot in Canton. I think Feagles should be mentioned in this conversation as well, he has definitely proven himself over the years. Sure they only play a minimal amount of time on the field compared to the rest of the team, but the position they play is just as critical to the game as any other position.

I think they do. But they have to be exceptional at what they do, and willing to put everything on the line to make a tackle those few times a return comes their way as well...

They are players too, don't see why not.

I like the last paragraph as well:

    Quote:

"I guess it all stems around people just don't understand the importance of a punter," Guy told Yahoo. "They really don't. Unless you played. You have to be in there. You have to understand every player on that team has a position or play to do."
Even just 2 years removed from Dodge-gate, some Giants fans don't seem to value the punter as much anymore either...

My only thought is how ironic that this thread was created by HallOfFame. One would think he was the only one qualified to answer said question...

They definitely belong. Alot of times they are the unsung heroes of their teams and are usually the highest scorers throughout a year. When a team doesn't have a good kicker or punter they suffer.

They play the game and can end their careers with just one shot, why not?

owners and coaches don't even play at all.....and they get in.
and i know most coaches used to play.....but there are very few
that would be enshrined as a player only.
and even media people get in... Sabol....anyways , i don't
see why a special teams player couldn't/shouldn't make it.

I think anyone who plays should be considered. If a kick returner plays better than all other kick returners, why not?
