threw 11 of 13 times to open the game and it was effective.</p>


Alex Smith got great protection and played an almost flawless game. I
only charted one truly bad pass he made the entire game. The other
incompletions were throwaways, drops, or tipped passes. His interception
came on a bad drop by Ted Ginn.</p>


It was the best game I saw Smith play all year. These weren’t just
safe throws. Smith was very accurate and hit passes into small windows.
He had time to go through his progressions and find his second or third
read.</p>


ESPN.com’s Mike Sando notes that the 49ers threw more on early downsagainst the Giants than any other game this year . . . until the win over the Saints in the playoffs.</p>


2. The Giants only got pressure on Smith late in the game. They almost never got pressure just rushing four defenders. Justin Tuck was playing hurt, so it’s a different New York front now. They will have to get pressure on Smith faster.</p>


Smith got hit and hurried almost as much as Eli Manning during this game, but it only happened when New York made Smith hold the ball a while.</p>

3. The Giants focused on stopping Vernon Davis, usually with two defenders. They did a great job on him until a blown coverage late in the game. New York made Braylon Edwards (now released), Ted Ginn, Michael Crabtree, and Delanie Walker beat them.</p>


4. New York played a lot of zone defense. After succeeding in man
coverage last week against the Packers, perhaps the Giants will go to
more man this around. Can Michael Crabtree and the other 49ers wideouts
beat man coverage on the outside?</p>


5.This wasn’t the defensive game you’d expect. (Although it wasn’t exactly cute.)
There wasn’t a punt until midway through the third quarter. It was more
about long, slow, productive drives and good situational defense.There
were only four possessions in the first 25 minutes.</p>


Like the Saints-49ers game, there was an explosion of scoring late in
the game. The game’s four touchdowns took place in a nine minute span.</p>


6. Frank Gore
came into the game gimpy and left at halftime with zero yards on six
carries. It’s impressive the 49ers managed to win despite only 50 yards
from their running backs. New York will probably load up and try to make
Smith beat them again.</p>


7. Braylon Edwards ran bad routes and had communication issues with
Smith twice in the red zone. Smith’s few misfires looked to be Edwards’
fault. It’s easy to see why the 49ers cut Edwards.</p>

49ers are going to throw because the Saints have a weak secondary and pass rush that they try to enhance by blitzing their safteys with. I would imagine the 49ers will be throwing more than the average fan would think, but be more balanced than they were this past week.

Alex Smith seems to absolutely be turning the corner. Thats why when Dezz was talking **** about the 49ers, i was just trying to point out that we might be seeing a young QB who finally has some support and a shot to be more than just a decent QB.

We had NO pressure on Smith in that game. The scary part is that even though Tuck is more healthy and seems to be making more of an impact - that WAS a game we had Osi back. that WAS a game that JPP was there. Their OLine handled us. BUT VD had a big day vs us and Boley was out that game which was a huge blow to us. Personally I think Braylon being gone also helps us. We are in for much more of a battle than I think most around here would realize. I actually felt better about the GB game than I did this game.

We are now throwing a ton of different looks out there. We changed some defensively philosophies during the Jets game and have been playing alot of different looks and concepts. What we did coverage wise in that last game doens't bother me.

Lets not forget that I still think the reason we lost this game was because they took that onside kick from us and the fact that Eli missed the read to hit Manningham wide open and threw a pick instead for not seeing the sight adjustment. Those two plays single handedly lost us that game.

Im not fearing Gore, but i'm not overlooking him either.

I think the accountability we had to have for BRaylon made them a harder team to cover, but his mistakes were obviously killer for the 9ers.

OK, so two weeks ago, the person that i passed along my season tickets to gave me the choice of going to the Broncos game or to this weekends game if the Patriots advanced...I have seen my team raise the Lamar Hunt Trophy 3 times. I am taking my youngest to her very first Playoff Game.. I certainly hope this will be her first and my Fourth......This has been a crazy week so far- Got my autograph request back from Peyton Manning yesterday(such a nice fella)..:) Went to a hole in the wall pawn shop the other day and purchased a Jordan Jersey, Carl Yastrzemski Autographed Ball, and a very old Beatles Book.. $40 for everything. Opened the Beatles book to find Autographs of all four of those bloody blokes inside....lol. There was some old scotch tape on one of the pages, and as i was getting ready to remove it, noticed what looked like hair stuck underneath...Yes, wierd, creepy, and interesting all at the same time........

Oh, by the way, in case your wondering about the little fella in the avatar.. Thats a little Sugar Bear..We are getting 2 of them any day now.....

David Akers broke the record for most field goals in a season. Surprised no one really has mentioned this. 9ers stall in the redzone a lot. Good news for us.

I would kill to have anything Jordan autographed. When I was a kid, I'd ocasionally find stuff, but always well out of my 13 year old price range lmao...
I've never even seen a pawn shop around here. There used to be one near my road when i was living in the ghetto, that was there forever. but they shutdown recently. i never been in it anyway.</P>
