lol....you just brought MLS into the conversation!!
im surprised MLS teams still exist. Sad really that the world's most popular sport cant make a splash in the U.S. until every time the world cup rolls around
i was actually very surprised that they were drawing even that many people
well i think its funny that they play in football stadiums with much larger capacities than arenas, yet still somehow compete with nhl games? madness!

Re: THEE NYG SWAG THREAD
I dont want people to get all butthurt over this debate. It's not like im saying hockey is an inferior sport by any means. I just kinda thought it was all obvious, and factual: It's not nearly as popular a sport as the rest.
I follow that trend too unfortunately. No particular reason. I liked hockey as a kid. I played until I was 17, but always thought the NHL was 'meh'...I was always much more into football, baseball, and basketball(albeit the 90s specifically). I always try to get into hockey...but to me its just easily forgettable.

If you wanna go even further, you can say that Nascar DESTROYS anything any other sport can try to compete with. The largest spectator sport by far, and it probably has the best ratings too.
I dont even consider nascar a real sport personally lol....there's no ball! there's not even a game! its just driving and making the same turn over and over! lol

Re: THEE NYG SWAG THREAD
The
NBA is on ESPN Wednesdays and Fridays, TNT on Thursdays, and on ABC
every Sunday beginning in January. Oh, and the late stages of the
playoffs and Finals are also nationally televised on ABC. The NHL? They
have that big network contract with ... Versus, which can be found on
channel five-hundred-and-something on your local cable or satellite
provider. Maybe.
To summarize: More people go to NHL
games than NBA games because basketball has better national television
deals than hockey does.

20 NHL teams play to 90% capacity, compared to 17 for the NBA.

Another great point that no one thought of...

It's ok Wayne, maybe one day your sport will be as cool as mine, but I doubt it.

We measured the number of times the words ‘basketball,’ ‘soccer’ and
‘hockey’ appeared online since November 2009. The trend chart above
shows that basketball generated the most mentions overall throughout the
two year time period.
