Panthers Hire Giants' Defensive Assistant As Linebackers' Coach

The Carolina Panthers have made it official, announcing the hire of Al Holcomb, who has spent the last four years with the New York Giants, as their next linebackers coach.

Holcomb interviewed with the Panthers on Thursday and was hired less than 24 hours later by another former Giant, Dave Gettleman, who was recently hired as Carolina's new General Manager.

In addition to Holcomb, the Panthers also met with Auburn Tigers defensive coordinator Brian VanGorder and Cleveland Browns linebackers coach Billy Davis. Davis also had a history with the Giants, having served as their linebackers coach in 2004." Read more...

With his departure Coughlin should pick up Spags for LB coach.

I don't think a former DC here and HC elsewhere comes back as a LB coach.

Not going to happen. That's three demotions since leaving the Giants. Don't be surprised to see the Eagles pick him up for a year.

Not sure why everyone is still so enamored with Spags coming back here. He has proven that, with lesser talent to work with, he hasn't had a shred of success. The Giants aren't currently even close to having the same defenses from '07 and '08, so why would anyone want him back here? It would just be more of the same letdown.
