    Can Eli restructure his contract?

Not because he doesn't deserve what he makes, but it is a lot. Is there a way for them to still pay him but in a different way that helps the team?

Eli restructured last summer, though I don't believe the details were ever released. Also, unless you want to tack on years to the end of the contract it'll only make his cap numbers for the remainder of his contract worse.

Also, it's in poor taste to ask the SB MVP who carried the team all season to restructure, lol.

Eli is the last person who should restructure. They need to do something with Canty and Jacob's contracts.

[/quote] yeah...a restructure helps for a year or so....adding years with no new money is acut in pay....this team needs to cut pay to get truly getstraitened up... Or cut players with big pay and not to much dead money....bottom line players will be making less moneyunder this new CBA... its going to take some time to level out

If the Giants were in a serious trouble, which they are not, they could convert his next years salary into a signing bonus, freeing up a huge chunk of change.

Re: Can Eli restructure his contract?

You know what, you guys don't understand the concept of restructuring.Sometimes a player restructures and at less money because he has to.Brandon Jacobs for example. When someone like Eli restructures it's not a bad thing for him financially. It's actually a good thing and in no way costs him anything. For instance,Big Ben restructured today. The Steelers converted 8 million due in salary this year to an 8million signing bonus. He actually gets the same 8million earlier as a bonus VS as base salary. The Steelers get to spread that 8 million prorated over the remaining years of the contract vs 8 mil on this years cap. It's a win-win for players like Ben or Eli.The term restructure is misunderstood as always being negative for the player. It's not.You asked if there was a way they could pay him in a different way that still helps the team. That's exactly what the Steelers did today with Ben and the Jet's did with Dbrick. That way is already in place. It's just a question of when we do it.Whenever Reese wants too,he can instantly create maybe 12 million in cap space restructuring Eli's contract.Simply,he could convert this years 15 million base into a 12 mil signing bonus and 3 mil base.It spreads the 12 mil out to future years caps.Eli gets the same money, only earlier.I don't see Reese using that bullet now.So we lose MM.we'll live.In the coming years guys like JPP,Nicks and even Cruz will need to be resigned. When that time comes there's a good chance we'll still have cap problems. That Eli bullet needs to be saved for that type of situation. When JPP becomes a FA and we're up against the cap.Or Nicks. We could keep Manningham if we really wanted to.But looking to the future,he's probably a luxury we can't afford. When push comes to shove,we won't lose a JPP or a Nicks because of the cap.I guess the Steelers decided today that keeping Wallace was the time to shoot. Now,if they came to Ben and asked him to restructure to keep a defensive player he might not have done it.It's his bullet too.Using it to keep his WR Wallace makes the decision easy.Being a team player only goes so far.
