PIOLI REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE INTEREST IN MANNING
"Scott Pioli refused to say Friday whether the Chiefs have interest in <span class="ysp-player"><a href="http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/4256/">Peyton
Manning</a>,</span> though the
general manager said discussions have taken place with free agent quarterback
<span class="ysp-player"><a href="http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/7282/">Kyle
Orton</a>.</span>
Pioli spoke during the scouting combine in Indianapolis.</p>
He said that <span class="ysp-player">Matt Cassel</span> remains the
Chiefs’ starting quarterback despite a difficult season that ended prematurely
due to injury. Kansas City brought in Orton off waivers from Denver at
midseason, and he led the Chiefs to a pair of wins over the final three
games.</p>
Pioli also said that All-Pro running back <span class="ysp-player">Jamaal Charles,</span> Pro Bowl
safety <span class="ysp-player">Eric Berry</span> and tight end
<span class="ysp-player"><a href="http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/24068/">Tony
Moeaki</a></span> are recovering
from knee injuries. All three tore their left ACLs."</p>
