GIANTS' GM JERRY REESE FELL FOR PIERRE-PAUL EARLY
"Fourteen NFL teams passed on Jason Pierre-Paul in the 2010
draft, and it’s fair to say most of those franchises regret the decision after
he posted 16.5 sacks in his second season.
Giants general manager Jerry Reese refuses to gloat over
selecting the talented defensive end at No. 15, admitting that scouting, in
general, can be a crap shoot, but JPP was an easy sell on New York’s front
office from the start.</p>
“We just thought that he was an elite athlete, No. 1, and his height, weight
and speed were off the charts,” Reese told reporters Saturday at the NFL
Scouting Combine. “… We thought we really weren’t taking that big of a risk to
draft a young man like him.</p>
“He really still hasn’t scratched the surface, we don’t think, on what we
think we can be. We guessed right.”</p>
Reese and the Super Bowl-winning Giants keep hitting on dangerous defensive
linemen, and that’s a bleak development for 31 other teams hoping to topple this
year’s kings."</p>
